I have been working pottery for over 16 years and like most potters started in a school or small studio with limited glaze options and limited creativity. My first growth came from traveling; I would try to visit potters and studios in different areas, every visit taught me something (obvara, pitfire, raku, woodfire).
From my dissatisfaction with boring, predictable glazes, I begin to research the methods used by natives, nomads and early societies which led me to alternative firing methods. I try to make sure that in every firing I try something different in method, coating or kiln adjustments (barrels, pits, etc).
A certain level of examined failure assures growth and success.
