Just finished this bee drawing 🐝
Charcoal, pencil, chalk pastel, and colored pencils on paper.

I like doing detailed work, but it takes a lot out of me so I don't do it too often. Feels good to exercise those art muscles though, lol 💪 🎨

A fun mental exercise that I do to keep my color practice sharp: whenever I see colors in the world that I like I imagine how I would recreate that color with paint. I think of mixing paint because I did a lot of that in art school. It's a fun practice, and you can do it anywhere, anytime.

This is one of those pieces that took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do with it.

While I was painting, I thought about the act of self-reflection and "looking into the void."
Which could be taken many ways, but for me it means contemplating that which is unknowable. Recognizing how we are both so big and so small at the same time.
Little universes everywhere.
