The annual Atlanta Design Festival is an open platform, ideal for fostering international dialogue on the economic and social impact of design. It provides connection, the free exchange of knowledge, design thinking and community building. Each year the Festival brings together independent designers, established brands, young talent, international speakers from academia, NGOs and government entities, exhibitions, installations and architecture tours – all centered on the economic and societal impact of design. We define this activity as ‘the design economy’ – the direct and indirect value created by those who use design in a wide variety of industries.

July 12 – October 31, 2026 — Wed–Sun 12pm–7pm — MODA

Salt is one of the oldest materials humans have shaped their lives around, and one of the last things you'd expect a design museum to build an exhibition on. That's exactly why it's worth seeing. SALT: A Design Story traces the material from mineral to design object. Good for anyone who likes an exhibition that makes them think differently about something ordinary.

On view through October 31.

Tadao Ando keeps putting green apples outside his buildings.

The largest sits in the porch of the Children's Book Forest in Nakanoshima, Osaka, a library he planned and gave to his home city. The sculpture is called Youth. It comes from Samuel Ullman's poem of the same name, which argues that youth is a state of mind rather than a period of life. Ando's reading of it: the goal is not the sweet ripe red apple, it's the green one, sour and unfinished and full of tomorrow.

In 2023 he turned that idea into a watch with Portuguese maker . Lugless case, no numerals, a single leaf on the dial. Green for the apple, grey for his concrete.

Cauny is sponsoring the Design is Human Awards 2026, and the Ando watch is on display at DesignStation.

June 5 – November 29, 2026 — Tue–Sat 10am–5pm, Sun 12pm–5pm — High Museum of Art

There's a version of a museum lawn that's just grass, and there's the High's lawn right now, covered in oversized, brightly coloured sculptural forms that look like they wandered off a cartoon set. Bring kids. Bring a camera. Bring anyone who thinks museums are meant to be serious all the time.

On view through November 29. Closed Mondays.

July 31, 2026 – February 21, 2027 — Tue–Sat 10am–5pm, Sun 12pm–5pm — High Museum of Art

Some art rewards a fast walk-through. This isn't that. Paper Trees is a body of graphite and coloured pencil drawings of the Georgia landscape, built up with the kind of patience that only comes from looking at the same tree for a very long time. Good for anyone who finds themselves more moved by quiet, careful work than spectacle, and a decent excuse to slow down for half an hour.

On view through February 21, 2027. Closed Mondays.

Sweet Auburn shaped Atlanta. Come hear how.

Join Gene Kansas, author of Civil Sights, for a talk and tour on the history of Sweet Auburn and the Southern School Book Building, a 1910 landmark designed by Neel Reid and now home to Constellations.

Sweet Auburn has long been a center of Black life, business, and leadership in Atlanta, and played a defining role in the Civil Rights Movement. This conversation looks at that history through the lens of preservation and design.

Coffee and pastries from Hell Yeah Gluten Free.

Friday, October 3, 9:30-11am. Constellations, 135 Auburn Ave NE. Free, registration required.

Thursday, October 1 — 6pm–8pm — Free

Some of the best design in this city isn't in a gallery. It's behind the shopfronts you walk past every week without going in.
Design Walk: Vinings Jubilee is built for exactly that, a stroll through the shops and studios of Vinings Jubilee at a pace closer to an evening out than a tour. See what's on the other side of doors you've never opened.

Free.
