New California Republic Trooper Cantina covers!

In our ongoing series on material culture we manufactured/modified for season two of “Fallout,” we made a small contribution to the NCR trooper uniforms.

Props provided us with the original army surplus canteen/cover in army green. We pulled a pattern from it, rotated the belt strap to give the canteen a vertical orientation and cut the new covers from material provided by production.

It took a couple attempts to get the cover looking tight and sharp, as you can see in one of the side-by-side photos. We also installed antique brass line 20 snaps in keeping with the color scheme that was designated. Then we attacked them with the airbrush to make them look sufficiently “Fallout appropriate.“

All in all we did about 14 of these for the NCR Troopers, and in the episode where they flashback to the bomb going off in Shady Sands, if you look closely, you can see them resting on a couple trooper’s belts as they march through the town!

More to come…

Over the weekend, attendees at Monsterpalooza were treated to this wicked delight – a life size tribute statue to Ray Harryhausen “Medusa the Gorgon“ from the 1981 movie “Clash of the Titans.”

This was fabricated a few years ago by Kelly Mark Studios and associates. We made a small contribution in creating the quiver for the deadly Gorgon’s arrows.

Being that the original was, a roughly 6th scale poseable sculpture for the stop motion work, we felt at life-size we needed to put a little extra detail into the quiver.

Medusa was part of a larger display that Kelly Delcambre created for this past weekend’s convention, honoring several of Harryhausen’s stop motion creations.

On a sidenote: this Medusa statue stands 6‘2“ tall in total, so take a guess at how tall the centaur is that’s standing next to it in the last picture!

Very proud to have had a small part in the creation of this great piece!

With the advent of the new movie, “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” it seems like a great time to revisit a project we were extremely proud to be a part of…

Back in late 2021, we were blessed with the opportunity to “check the box” on a personal and professional goal.

You see, we started our business in 2007 at Star Wars Celebration IV in Los Angeles, with the sole idea “Let’s make 100 different Jedi belts and see if we can sell ‘em…”

Operating under the banner “Corellian Imports: Purveyors of Intergalactic Finery” (anyone remember that moniker?) the show was a success, and we started doing more and selling online to cosplayers as well.

Then we set the goal that we wanted to do “something official Star Wars.“ It didn’t matter what it was, and sure enough within a couple years, we started prototyping for the cut & sew department at Sideshow Collectibles. (and yes, most of those projects were officially licensed Star Wars collectibles) 😉

Surprised at how quickly we were able to achieve that goal, we thought what the heck, and we just decided to put it out there in the universe – we want to work on Star Wars make something FOR Star Wars. As in for the movies.

We had no idea how this would happen, because at the time when we set the goal, generally Lucasfilm always produced their Star Wars movies over in England.

But as fate would have it, soon a little mouse bought the company that made Star Wars and they started making TV shows… right here in Hollywood. 🎥

And so we got the call in late 2021 from a friend of ours. The shop he ran the soft goods department for needed more hands, but they couldn’t bring additional staff into their location because of Covid protocols prohibiting additional hires for safety reasons. And as luck would have it, what they needed help with was ::leather:: Lots of leather. Belts, pouches, holsters- everything that was right in our wheelhouse. Thus we finally got to make stuff FOR Star Wars.

The following are screen caps showing some of the 60 belts and over 400 pouches we made for “The Mandalorian Season 3.” Special thanks goes out to our tiny but highly skilled team of Jawas- Jane Cadieux, Rusty Locke and Robb Yanagihara for helping us bring the job in early. The Force (and good Thai food! 😋) was with us all. ✨

It feels good to “check boxes.” Now get out there and check yours! 🫵🏼

This is the way.

It’s Mando and Grogu day!!!

In honor of the occasion, we thought we’d share a little music video that we were involved in with artist a few years back.

This song is so sweet and endearing; anyone that loves another creature in the galaxy can certainly relate.

The budget was limited, but we were still able to create a custom Jedi look for Floowood, as well as bring a couple props and help out during production. We even found a couple Sith rascals to come play…

More Fallout, season two!

Besides working on pieces for The Ghoul, (see prior post) we also did a lot of “odds and ends soft goods work.”

Adding straps to bags; modifying a tool bag and adding a shoulder strap for Maximus’ father during the destruction of Shady Sands scene; making a duplicate of a belt for Ella Pernell’s Lucy; weathered straps for goggles for background players; and making several duplicates of a Brotherhood of Steel squire’s holster from season one. Whether modifying material culture for extras or creating amazing pieces for cast, Amy and I feel so fulfilled and blessed to be able to ply our trade making cool stuff for such a great show. (or any show, for that matter!) 😉

I’m doing a terrible job of keeping up on social posts lately so we’re a bit behind on news…

We had the great fortune and pleasure of working on season two of Fallout. Amongst the many tasks we were given, we had to repair a variety of items from season one and also make duplicates. Here we have the original Bowie knife sheath and rifle scabbard owned by the Ghoul, played by the inimitable Walton Goggins. We repaired the originals and made duplicates. Can you tell which is which?

Work time conversations in the shop as we listen to “ambient sounds of the Shire” playlist…

“… No, if there’s anyone that should be running a spa in middle earth it’s the elves. Rivendell will be the day spa destination.“

“You’re right, the Shires where you go for all the good food and parties. And BEER! (and y’know, pipeweed…”

“I guess that means the outdoor heavy metal festival is in Mordor then.“
