Jan's Dance Studio

Jan's Dance Studio JDS offers ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, acro, lyrical and pointe. Home of the nationally award winning JDS Dazzlers Dance Company.

Jan's Dance Studio has been educating children in the art of dance for over 30 years. We have highly trained instructors; a University dance instructor, past professional dancer, two classroom teachers, dance/music certifications and several instructors with college dance degrees. We have a comprehensive dance syllabus for each level we teach and our end product is dancers who are well trained in

the art of dance but even more importantly self-confident, disciplined, healthy and excellent students in all aspects of their life. Dance teaches students dedication, respect, healthy exercise habits, discipline and pride in their accomplishments- plus it is super fun and a way to get the wiggles out! Please let us know if you have any questions about our program or about how dance can benefit your child.

I plan on attending Illinois State University and majoring in Graphic Design after graduating Auburn High School. I want to continue dancing throughout my life but in the short term have been looking at joining one of the various dance groups on campus. I have danced at Jan’s for 14 years. My favorite style of dance is ballet, closely followed by contemporary. The thing I have enjoyed most about being at Jan’s Dance Studio is the family dynamic around the studio. The teachers and students know so much about each other and check in all the time. Dance has benefited me in many ways including making friends, moving my body, and having a way to express myself. I think the most challenging aspect of dance for me was to grow and get to the level the other dancers were at. I only took hiphop for so many years and then in 6th grade my mom allowed me to take more classes. I practiced all the time to be able to catch up to the other dancers who had been taking all the classes for all those years. My advice to younger dancers would have to be to compare yourself in a positive light instead of a negative one. So many younger dancers compare themselves and even I did, but instead of thinking “I’ll never be as good as them” they should think “I want to be just like them.” It’ll help your attitude in class and push you to become a better dancer. Another piece of advice would be to be present in class. Listen to what your teacher is saying and don’t get so caught up in your friends that you don’t take what you need out of class. My favorite moment isn’t a moment but it’s a day. I absolutely love recital day and the excitement around it. I love the “quiet before the storm” stretching before Opening Number. I love being able to perform for my family and show them what I have achieved throughout the year. It can be a little chaotic but it is definitely my favorite day of the year.

We are so proud of Hannah and we are so excited to see what she does next!

After graduating from Glenwood High school, I plan on attending Greenville University and majoring an Exercise Science. I do plan on counting my dance career college, and am signed to their dance team. I have danced for 14 years, and my favorite style is musical theater. While being a student at Jan’s Dance Studio, I’ve most enjoyed being able to call someplace, besides my house, a home. Dance has benefited me by making me a confident young woman. It’s given me life long lessons that I’ll use outside of the studio, and had taught me the importance of kindness. The most challenging part of dance for me has been not having enough confidence in myself as a dancer. My biggest form of advice to give to younger dancers is to work hard, be honest, and most importantly,be kind. Although it may be easier to follow the crowd, having a good, honest work ethic will go along way. Lastly, kindness is free!! Don’t forget that!! My favorite Jan’s Dance Studio moment is consistently winning sportsmanship awards throughout the years.

We are so proud of Addison and can’t wait to see where the world takes her!

📸It’s Picture Week and Dress Rehearsal!!! 📸

Make sure you check your recital packets to see if your class time has changed! Your dancer should have received it in person but it was also sent virtually!

I’m graduating from Glenwood High School, and I’m going to Mizzou to study Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences to become a Pediatric Speech Pathologist! I will be trying out for Mizzou’s competitive club team for dance! I’ve danced at Jan’s for 13 years and my favorite style of dance is either jazz or contemporary! My favorite part about being a student at Jan’s Dance Studio is the relationships i’ve built with my teachers, but also the friendships I’ve built with my classmates that feel like they’re my sisters. Dance has benefited me in ways that have helped with my struggle with anxiety, learning not to be so hard on myself, and building a work ethic that will benefit my future. The most challenging part of my dance career has definitely been myself. I am my biggest critic and competition, but throughout the years i’ve learned to overcome those thoughts and not be so hard on myself, really just enjoying the moment. Advice I’d give to younger dancers is to just love what you do and cherish what and who you have. You never really know how fast time flies until youve reached the end. Fulfill your experience while you still can and keep your relationships close to your heart. My favorite Jans Dance Studio moment would have to be all the laughs I’ve shared with my friends throughout the years. We are a very giggly group and I’m so happy we’re all so close and will miss it all so much!

We’re so proud of Madeline and we’re so excited to see what her future holds!

💜💜Yasmin El-Amin💜💜

I go to Sacred Heart Griffin, and plan to attend University of Houston. I see myself dancing in the future as I plan to try out for the university of Houston dance team next year. I have danced at Jan’s for 15 years, and my favorite style of dance is hip hop. What I have
enjoyed most about being a student at Jan’s Dance Studio is being able to connect with people everyday. Dance has benefited me by allowing a window of confidence to
open and it’s allowed me to truly get to know myself through art. The most challenging aspects of dance is recognizing when to give yourself a break. Advice I would give to a younger dancer is to believe in yourself, take risks, and go through life with a growth mindset. My favorite JDS moment is hanging out the window of annex 2.

We are so proud of Yasmin and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!
