Just announced! The Front Porch presents acclaimed songwriter Jill Andrews Friday, December 11 at 8 PM.

From her years with the everybodyfields to her acclaimed solo career and her latest collaboration, Hush Kids, Jill Andrews has spent nearly two decades creating irresistibly melodic, genre-bending music. Anchored by frank, deeply personal songwriting, her music draws from influences ranging from Joni Mitchell and Diana Ross to The Beatles, Gregory Alan Isakov, and St. Vincent.

Her songs have found their way into beloved television series including Grey’s Anatomy, This Is Us, Nashville, and Wynonna Earp, for which she composed the theme. As American Songwriter puts it, “Andrews’ songs are beautifully crafted,” while Paste Magazine calls her “one of the strongest young female songwriters around.”

🎻 Welcome, Isabella Gorman! 🎻

We’re so excited to welcome Isabella Gorman to The Front Porch teaching staff!

A violinist, fiddler, and educator based right here in Charlottesville, Isabella brings an incredible blend of classical training and American folk traditions to her teaching. A graduate of the New England Conservatory, she has performed with renowned ensembles including the Philadelphia Orchestra, New World Symphony, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, and New England Conservatory Philharmonia.

As a fiddler, Isabella has toured with Oliver Anthony, performed and recorded as a studio musician, and appeared on radio programs and live broadcasts.

But what we’re especially excited about is the way Isabella brings all of that experience into the lesson room. 🎶 Her teaching draws from Suzuki, Appalachian and bluegrass fiddle, ear training, improvisation, and contemporary repertoire, creating a learning experience that can meet students wherever they are—from first-time beginners to advanced players preparing for auditions, orchestras, and performances.

And when she’s not making music? You’ll probably find her hiding things around the house and yard for her Cocker Spaniel to find or making an unreasonable number of attempts to get her coffee just right. ☕🐶

Theocles & The Muses and The Currys bring a double-headliner co-bill to Rivanna Roots next Saturday, with full-length sets from both groups!

Theocles Herrin & the Muses blend soul, folk, and pop into high-energy original music with big harmonies, bluesy guitar, and soaring fiddle. The Currys bring their harmony-driven folk-rock and years of songwriting and performing together.

Today, we celebrate one of those special people who has become so much more than a teacher to our Front Porch family. After four wonderful years with The Front Porch, we are saying goodbye to the beloved Kelly Chambers as she begins her next chapter.

Kelly has poured so much love, patience, creativity, and heart into our community. Over the years, she has helped shape little lives, created countless memories, and made The Front Porch a warmer, brighter place simply by being part of it.

While we are incredibly sad to see Kelly go, we are also so grateful. Grateful for every student she taught, every family she welcomed, every colleague she supported, and every bit of love she gave to The Front Porch.

Kelly, thank you for these four beautiful years. You will always be a part of our Front Porch community, and we will be cheering you on in your next chapter. You will be deeply missed. 💛

What can happen when you just start? 🎶

In 2022, Susan Weiner picked up the double bass for the first time after 40 years away from making music. She started with a Front Porch group class, and just six months later, she was joining community jam sessions.

Three and a half years later, music has taken Susan to jams, workshops, and camps up and down the East Coast, where she’s found a whole new community of people who share her love of making music. Along the way, she’s become deeply involved with The Front Porch, volunteering her time and helping shape the community that means so much to her.

Her story is a pretty wonderful example of what can happen when you start from scratch, learn with other people, and keep showing up. And the best part? You don’t have to know where it will take you. 💛
