Little Hopes bring their dreamy Southern Americana to The Front Porch on Friday, November 6! ✨

Atlanta-based duo Sydney Rhame and Brock Shanks blend Americana and country-rock with vivid Southern imagery, weaving stories of honeysuckle-covered porches, summer thunderstorms, glittering night skies, and the beauty and heartbreak of chasing your dreams. Their debut album Georgia bottles up the ragged charm of the American South in a sound that’s both timeless and entirely their own. Little Hopes

Ever wondered how musicians get comfortable enough to jump into a jam session and play off one another? 🪕

A little glimpse into “Bluegrass – Learn to Jam” with Andy Thacker! In our Learn to Jam classes, students build the skills and confidence to join a jam session, find their groove, and make music together in the moment.

At The Front Porch, Learn to Jam is the next step after From Scratch and Beyond Basics group classes, a chance to put what you’ve learned into practice with other musicians, explore improvisation, and discover the fun of making music as a group.

Thinking about taking your playing to the next level? Keep our Learn to Jam classes in mind for spring! More details coming soon.

Don’t miss Brandon Wayne & His Lonesome Drifters at The Front Porch November 1! 🎸

Rooted in the hills and hollows of Central Virginia, Brandon Wayne brings a vintage sound steeped in classic country, bluegrass, rockabilly, and hillbilly boogie. With a sound that feels straight out of the 1950s, his music blends the rustic spirit of rural America with a rock ’n’ roll edge. Think the timeless twang of George Jones meets Hank Williams, with a little grit, a whole lot of character, and a voice that’s unmistakably his own.

Music has a way of bringing us back to a moment, a memory, or a song we’ve loved for years. 🎶

Last week, Front Porch teaching artists Chris Matthews and Lucas Rhondeau visited JABA in Central Virginia in Charlottesville, sharing old favorites and making music together. Watching seniors sing along, sway, dance, and light up with joy is a beautiful reminder of the power of music to connect us.

We’re grateful to be part of this work with JABA, sharing familiar songs, meaningful moments, and the simple pleasure of making music together. Thank you to Twice is Nice, whose outreach funding helps make these mornings possible. 🫶

We had a delightful time in preschool classrooms this week! Children are learning music skills such as keeping a steady beat with rhythm sticks, singing favorite songs together, and exploring instrument sounds. Our teachers create routines so that children can relax into the pattern and truly enjoy the experience. We’re grateful for the partnerships that allow us to work closely with over 650 young children this school year. ☀️

🪕Here’s a look at what to expect when Elsa Howell & the Blackbird Pie Stringband take the stage at The Front Porch on November 21! And we’re making a full day of it, with a morning ballad workshop led by Elsa and Murphy Campbell, followed by an evening concert featuring Elsa’s band and Murphy opening the show.

Led by Roanoke singer-songwriter Elsa Howell, Blackbird Pie blends original music, traditional and reimagined Appalachian ballads, and folk and country favorites. Inspired by artists like Gillian Welch, Texas Gladden, and Sierra Ferrell, Elsa’s music is deeply connected to her Virginia roots and the generations of singers who came before her. She’s joined by her parents, Isak Howell on banjo and Chris Howell on bass, and fiddler Alaina Krakowiak.
