The reception for the creative contest went off without a hitch! Food was eaten, beautiful and affecting artistic pieces were displayed, and in the end we had a few prizes to award. First went to Nico Gendron for her poem "Peaches". Second place went to Libra Johnson for her dance set to "Numb". Third place went to Adam Santalla, Anne Donnely, Daniel Prillman and Kyle Hughes for their devised theater piece "Creation of Man". Congratulations to all of the winners!

"What do you Expect from your Leaders" small group conversations are starting this week. Stay tuned for a recap!

So, what I would like to see in terms of leadership is... a willingness to support novel initiatives even with the knowledge that many if not most such initiatives will fail. All it takes is one or two to succeed and it will all be worthwhile.

There exist any number of items that could be listed here: honesty, wisdom, courage, empathy, etc. etc. etc.

I think it's more productive, however, to flip the question around and ask what our leaders should expect from us. Our "leaders" are only there because we put them there (I hope, at least) and simply having somebody in charge does not mean that we can/should relax and wait for the honest/courageous/empathetic Leader to "do something."

So, the short answer: I expect him/her to ask things of me and then to listen to me, take my opinion seriously, and factor it into any of the decisions that he/she makes in my name.
