There is only one week left to view Liz Nielsen’s solo exhibition ‘Auric,’ up in SOCO Gallery.

In ‘Auric,’ Liz Nielsen combines different bodies of work to capture the material performance of her process. For Nielsen, light serves simultaneously as material and subject. Nielsen approaches light as a “tangible intangible,” something measurable and physical, yet impossible to fully hold. The resulting works exist between states: abstract and representational, cosmic and earthly, intimate and monumental. This tension between control and unpredictability lies at the core of Nielsen’s practice. While each composition is carefully orchestrated through precise calculations of exposure, color, and duration, the behavior of light itself resists complete mastery. Subtle shifts emerge throughout the process, allowing chance and material interaction to play an active role in the final composition. Rather than depicting a fixed scene, the works record an event—an accumulation of gestures, decisions, and luminous encounters that unfold over time.

Through ‘Auric’ Liz Nielsen references that of an aura, or different energies that emit from each other and our shared landscape. Auras often emit different colors and glows depending on their energies and relationships to each other. In ‘Auric,’ Nielsen maps these energetic encounters through the overlapping and merging of glowing shapes and landscapes.

‘you’re here with us’ will be on view during the Mint Museum’s solo exhibition by the artist, “Corey Pemberton: Living Well,” opening on September 18, 2026.

All of the works presented in ‘Auric’ have a haze-like element to the work, as if the scenes have been suspended in a dream-like world. Works such as “Moon (Chandra)” do not completely appear static, but through the bleed of colors and soft edges appear more like a premonition than a simple abstracted work.

Thomas Gleaner・Hold These Truths・2018

In ‘Hold These Truths,’ Gleaner created mixed media paintings and sculptures to extend his long-held interest in the intersection between language and visual communication. The passage––“When words fail and all my pictures fade”––written in one of his many handmade artist’s books led him to seek solutions to a bigger question: “How do I communicate when that happens?” The works embody the artist’s ongoing interest in interrogating the power and limitations of the written word.

Researching light as both scientific phenomenon and poetic force, Nielsen continues her ongoing dialogue between photography, painting, and perception. In ‘Auric,’ light becomes not simply a tool for seeing, but a living structure through which transformation, instability, and connection are made visible. Nielsen’s images evoke places that feel simultaneously remembered and unknown, reflecting a world already in motion beneath our feet.

Congratulations to artist Damian Stamer on the acquisition of his work “Requiem” by the Nasher Museum of Art, a gift of Susan and Michael Hershfield.

Damian Stamer (b. 1982, Durham, North Carolina) received his BFA from Arizona State University as a National Merit scholar and his MFA from UNC Chapel Hill as a Jacob K. Javitz fellow. He studied at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design as a Rotary Ambassadorial scholar and at the University of Fine Arts Budapest as a Fulbright grantee. Stamer was awarded the Budapest Art Factory International Artist Residency and the North Carolina Arts Council Arts Fellowship in 2017 and 2014, respectively. Stamer meticulously explores the intricacies of time, memory, and the transient nature of existence. He engages with a spectrum of influences that include the natural processes of decay and entropy, the intuitive practice of autonomic mark making, and the silent narrative of abandonment and ruin, all while drawing insights from meditation, psychology, and the study of consciousness. Stamer’s images capture the inevitable flux of time and the ephemeral quality of our experiences, reflecting on the unavoidable change that shapes our perception of the world.

Amir H. Fallah (b.1979 in Tehran, Iran) received a BFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art and his MFA from University of California, Los Angeles. His practice bridges painting and collage to craft personal and political narratives.

He has enjoyed previous solo exhibitions at The Fowler Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2023); Center of International Contemporary Art, Vancouver, BC (2022); Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN (2021); MOCA Tuscan, Tuscan, AX (2020); South Dakota Museum of Art, Brookings, SD (2019); Schneider Museum of Art, Ashland, OR (2017); San Diego Art Institute, San Diego, CA (2017); and Nerman Museum Of Art, Overland, KS (2015), among others. Amir H. Fallah has several forthcoming solo museum exhibitions in 2027, including at the Van Every/ Smith Galleries at Davidson College, Davidson, NC, the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, WA and the Michigan State University Broad Museum, East Lansing, MI.

Fallah has been the recipient of numerous grants, awards, and residencies, including the 9th Sharjah Biennial, the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant, and the COLA Individual Artist Fellowship. His work has been featured in several publications, including Hyperallergic, Colossal, and The New York Times, among others. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.

His solo exhibition “What The Wind Carries” will open at SOCO Gallery on September 16, 2026.

‘At the Club’ depicts shapes in various transparencies but focuses on the physical connection and overlap between the forms. The shapes form relationships with each other: leaning, intersecting, and merging. The shapes themselves almost become mirrors to real life and the relationships we inhabit.
