Posting here to say a big thank you to kind & generous people. It’s incredible how people have provided shelter, friendship, employment and peace in a situation that is so unplanned and financially devastating for most.

This is my 3rd year in New Orleans and I will not forget
Seeing the destruction and devastation of so many brings so much sadness and guilt. I am beyond fortunate to have had a friend to evacuate with and their community accept us with open arms and hearts.

It is deeply a privilege in many ways to evacuate as many do not have cars, let alone, the financial means to stay in hotels and feed themselves without work.

I struggle with posting here about clay things because it doesn’t feel right while everyone is rebuilding and without power/Internet. It is my hope that thoughtful content will bring a little light and joy and not overshadow the reality of the months ahead rebuilding our communities.

Forgot I was posting old work 😅 doing too many things these days.

Porcelain, 2019
Thrown vessel manipulated and decorated with stamps, scalloping and glazed with a Mint Celadon.

The glaze is crawling in places which is likely due to the fact that I glazed this piece without having wiped off the dust beforehand- whoops!

Please enjoy these close ups,
I hope they make you giddy and drool simultaneously... not that I would have done those things ☺️🙃

If you can’t tell, I 🧡 green and blue. My wardrobe betrays me almost every day.

I go through phases of white versus brown clay bodies. Grog versus fine clay. The flared planter is a recent piece whereas the tumbler was thrown in New Orleans in 2017/18.

I still lived in NYC at the time, but decided to come try out a summer in Nola to see if I could “take the heat”.

I was at studio for 3 weeks and tried a local porcelain. Most of the work I made was given to the friends (who so graciously hosted me). I only kept a couple glazed and bisque pieces.

Technically, the tumbler is not a good example of my work but it serves as a reminder of that summer and my decision to move to New Orleans. It’s only appropriate that I dragged that bisqueware back down to Nola to be glazed at with a glaze that was actually a mistake 😂.

1: Porcelain Tumbler with white satin glaze and blue-green gloss stripe 1inch from lip. Flared planter in warm brown eathenware, glazed with blue-green matte.
2: Tumbler and Planter; planter on side to see inside and drainage hole at bottom.
3: Tumbler and Planter: planter on side with bottom to camera- reveals warm brown earthenware with drainage hole at center.
4: Planter in background, hand holding Tumbler with bottom faced to camera. Trimmed foot and “handmade” stamped into base are visible.

Dish & Bowl (Fruit)

1: Buff stoneware with fine misting of glaze. A play between rough clay and sparkly silica make this simple dish interesting visually and by hand-feel.
2: Angle to capture foot.
3: Warm earthenware bowl with milky, gloss glaze interior with a white crawl glaze bottom.
4: Detail of milky glaze, raw clay body and crawl glaze.

Crazing

This is my made for our workshop in May 2021.

I often take forever (and a day) to glaze my work. Sometimes because I’m testing glazes, but mostly because I like my work to have a relationship between clay body, form and glaze.
-
This warm brown clay body has some grog and, therefore, wonderful plasticity for &

I hadn’t tested many of glazes on this clay body but saw it responded well to their dark clay body. I took a leap and love the resulting color + gloss finish.

Excited to use this glaze for my first lab with to hopefully understand the chemistry behind this glaze and how to ‘fit’ it to my clay body.
-
P.s. this glaze does NOT craze in areas with thinner application... Can’t wait to tell you all why that is!
