Join us for our next Open Air Artist Talk featuring acclaimed contemporary artist Abigail DeVille, whose work is currently on view in Beyond Boundaries: Black Abstraction in the Elliot and Kimberly Perry Art Collection.

Known for her immersive, site-specific installations, DeVille transforms found objects and overlooked materials into powerful works that uncover hidden histories and amplify stories of marginalized communities. Rooted in both personal and political explorations of place, memory, and identity, her practice challenges us to reconsider what is preserved, what is forgotten, and how abstraction can serve as a vehicle for storytelling.

This virtual conversation will be hosted by curator Dexter Wimberly and will offer unique insight into DeVille’s artistic process, influences, and the ideas that shape her work.

An eighth-grade class from Coulwood STEM Academy visited our Mecca of Digital Arts for the first time to learn about storytelling through photography, capturing photos throughout uptown Charlotte. Thank you to our instructor, Nigel, and our partner, the Arts & Science Council, for supporting students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg in developing new experiences!

Celebrate the sounds that have shaped your life through a hands-on creative workshop at MODA. Participants will design their own mixtape or vinyl cover artwork using digital collage techniques while enjoying curated playlists spanning soul, jazz, hip-hop, house, R&B, funk, and Afrobeats.

Join Harry Allen—hip-hop activist, writer, Public Enemy's legendary "Media Assassin," and current MLK Visiting Scholar at MIT—for a fascinating talk on the Hip-Hop Deep Space Monument project. This ambitious initiative seeks to preserve hip-hop's most transcendent recordings and send them on a journey into deep space as a cultural time capsule.

✨ The evening will also feature opening and closing DJ sets by DJ She's A+, with an introduction from Dr. Amy Carleton of MIT.
