I’m grateful today 🙌🏻 When I look at this picture, I see faithfulness. 🙌🏻 What most people don’t know is that I started my studio a few years before this picture was taken with a $100 noisy 2008 Mac Pro, a $200 mic, and a $200 interface in an echoey room I couldn’t afford to treat with sound protection. 😂🤷🏼‍♂️
I worked hard with what I had, saved hard, invested hard, sold things my wife and I didn’t really need to pay bills while I built my business, and put in 70-85 hour six day workweeks for months.
Simply put, I reached a point where I learned to begin giving up my excuses and abiding in God’s grace and calling on my life. It’s a cool thing to step in my studio today and realize that the high quality equipment I record people through is a miracle because the obedience that God has willed me to be able to walk in is a miracle. (One thing to note though - obedience looks different for different people and different seasons! Definitely not glorifying working 70-85 hr weeks, but it was the season God called me to at the time, so I leaned in!)
This is the main reason why I love to produce; I love to help disciple people into obedience in their callings. Instead of just coming out of the studio with a song produced, why not also leave with a renewed mind? Growth in the Lord is an investment that Is worthwhile!

FUNDING YOUR MUSIC CAREER🔥💰👇🏻
Ultimately, we make time for what we value. In the same way, we make money to invest it into things that we value.
Give yourself the freedom of full honesty - is your artistry something that should have a financial priority in your life right now?
If yes, there are four ways to make more money: 1) make more, 2) save more, 3) fundraise more, and 4) sell more!
I’ve had artists sell houses, raise thousands, apply for jobs, and save $ on groceries to afford their careers. They didn’t do this to be reckless, but, instead, made faithful sacrifices over time under the leadership of wise counsel - with the ultimate goal of staying true to the callings God has given them in their career.
If your business prioritizes success over profit, it’s likely you’ll invest more money than you get back for some time. This is normal - so normalize it and fund your music career as it grows into profitability. This approach is a drag for those that are not called and a delight for those that are, and every stage yields awesome ministry!

Focus on what you CAN control.
You’ll be surprised on how much you can do with the resources that you have.
I’ve seen artists with paper thin budgets win national competitions, sign to labels, reach hundreds of thousands, and grow a legitimate income with genuine ministry impact.
You can do this! Be encouraged!

Are we really “used” by God?
Check out this quote from Amanda Cook: "I hate when people talk about being used by God, only because God doesn't actually desire to 'use us;' He wants to partner with us. Nobody can ever say that they enjoy a friendship with a friend that uses them. I've never said, ‘Man, I really love the way that Jacob (Amanda's spouse) uses me. I just want to be used by my husband.’ Nobody ever says that - cause it's not true. Why do we have that in our vocabulary? It comes from a wrong mindset of God - a God who is distant and far off and sees us basically as only redeemable enough to be used. Like, 'maybe I could do something with them. Maybe.’ We are the clay and He is the potter, and sometimes we live as if God is fashioning us into being really functional toilets instead of a piece of art from His heart that He labored over and loves to put on display. You're not a toilet. 🚽" 😂
We have infinite, whole value in Christ. We MUST believe this. Because it’s true, and we are in the Truth - Jesus. We aren’t “used” by God, but rather invited into partnership in His kingdom for His glory.

🚨LIFECHANGING BUSINESS ADVICE FROM MY MENTOR🚨👇🏻👇🏻
You are always responsible to do what brings the most value to your audience.
Being successful is sometimes very different from being profitable. Matthew 16 says ”For what will a man profit if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?”
Unless you’re doing artistry just for the fun of it (which is also great!), you have a responsibility to serve people and care for your audience to the best of your ability.
Let’s lead our communities by serving them, giving genuine care, being fully present, regularly showing up, listening well, and being like Jesus.🙌🏻

God invites us into the joy of trusting Him today. He gives, takes away, and restricts all out of His goodness. We can be still and know that He is God because His grace is sufficient, and His kindness leads us into the brave journey of surrendering everything to Him. 🙌🏻

What’s stopping you from moving forward with your artistry? Don’t let an overabundance or lack of platform influence your purpose.
Instead, let your passion be proven by your perseverance. Move forward in stewardship, with the goal of honoring God with your all as the ONLY priority.
