You may find yourself wondering.. why is an equestrian photographer doing stranger sessions?

While the heart of my business will always be with the horse community, the heart of my, well- me, is single 😅. So when I started seeing these stranger sessions pop up in my feed, I was intrigued- I know from experience how frustrating the dating apps can be!

Thats why I’m offering a small number of these sessions - as a fun creative project, a way to reach out to new people, and hey, if it ends up getting me some good dating karma, I’ll take it!

Because my community may be equestrians, but that’s not the only dimension to the people I normally shoot- we all have loves and losses, relationship successes and frustrations. If I can help someone out there on their journey, and have fun doing it- that’s a win win!

STRANGER SESSION: EMMA + ERIC
Scout's Honor- these two had never met before, didn't know what to expect (heck, I didn't either!), and just happened to both be brave enough to show up to a blind date and see what happened (while someone photographed- now that's courage!).

And what happened? They went from talking about their jobs, to bonding over obscure dog breeds, and suddenly they were holding hands between locations... it wasn't even an hour in before Eric was lifting Emma in the most epic 'Dirty Dancing' style lift any of us could have imagined.. (Glad Emma's not afraid of heights?!)

It's safe to say I think my first Stranger Session, and Eric and Emma's blind date, was a success. More updates and pics to come, but I'm going to drop a few of these and you'll just have to imagine all the laughs that were happening in between (and during!).

I’m going to be honest with you- I avoided doing this for months. YEARS, even.

Making myself get in front of my own camera has been something I have dreaded.. not wanting to see my own image on my screen afterwards, not wanting to see my face up close to notice all the imperfections, lumps bumps etc etc etc - we all know we are our own worst critic!

But you know what?! I’m a work in progress. I’m going to practice flexing this muscle, because I want to be a known entity to you already when I show up to our session. And if I overly edited myself, 1) you may not recognize me! And 2) that wouldn’t be authentic to who I really am as a photographer- I don’t dive into someone’s pores and pixels after a session.. so why would I do that to myself?

Anyways, all that to say.. I am working on getting in front of the camera more myself. Pores, wrinkles, and all.

Getting stronger as a photographer and a person with every attempt! 💪

This is your reminder that it is OK (more than OK!) to want photos of yourself, and not just family or pet portraits.

You are a masterpiece in your own right- and it's not vain to want to celebrate yourself. You have a journey - celebrate how far you've come. You've hit a milestone - capture the moment to track your progress. You are in a new season of life - cherish your present while you let go of the past.

There are SO many reasons for personal portrait sessions.. let me help you count them all!
