Hidell Brooks Gallery is located at the southend steelyard in the historical southend district of Charlotte, North Carolina. Hidell Brooks Gallery specializes in the work of well-established and solidly-emerging artists working in a contemporary narrative and figurative vein. Hidell Brooks provides an excellent atmosphere for both the individuals and corporations to contemplate quality works of ar

t in all styles, mediums and price ranges. We represent the work of regional and national artists, while maintaining our original goal of exhibiting works of art by american artists who have rarely been shown in the Southeast. The gallery is committed to supporting the arts in the community and beyond. Hidell Brooks Gallery assists both the well-established and beginning collector, working to develop and nurture their interest in collecting, while ensuring the highest level of expertise, integrity and laid-back style. Education is always an ongoing priority, as we believe that the most successful collections are based on a thorough understanding of an artist's work, as well as the process of developing one's focus of interest. Katharine Hidell Thomas and Rebecca Brooks are pleased to represent our stable of painters and sculptors whose works we enjoy offering to clients to add to their collections. We invite you to browse the website to become familiar with our artists. Please contact us with absolutely any questions and we look forward to your visit to the gallery.

Mary Henderson’s intimate paintings are dedicated to the rituals of girlhood. Henderson received her BA in fine arts from Amherst College and MFA in painting from the University of Pennsylvania. Most of the works in this series are very small in scale and painted on paper. The scale is, in part, an outgrowth of her interest in the miniature painting tradition and its precious tokens of love and memorial. The idea of making paintings that can’t be seen with a quick glance from across a room or experienced by a large number of people at once, requiring instead a singular viewer’s active participation – a decision to stop and look. Mary is currently a professor of art at Bucks County Community College.

Canada artist Nick Rooney current practice investigates the tension between geometric minimalism and classical realism. He examines how painting—a single medium—can simultaneously create the illusion of depth and realism while embracing the flatness of shape and form. Born in Calgary, Canada, Nick holds a master of arts in painting from the University of the Arts London. Rooney is currently an Assistant Professor of Visual Studies at the University of Calgary. His paintings are included in INTRO opening this Friday by appoinment.

San Francisco based artist Bussie Parker Kehoe transforms ordinary discarded house paint into multi dimensional works of art. By pouring the paint on glass and allowing it to dry, she can then mold the dried paint into densely layered paintings. Her assemblages push the boundaries and captivate the viewer. Kehoe studied printmaking and drawing at the University of Virginia, then put her art practice on pause while she practiced law, started a family, and taught art to preschool-aged children in Washington DC. She has been a full time artist since 2017. We are thrilled her work is included in our INTRO exhibition opening 6/5 by appointment.

We were blown away by her work. We are thrilled to include a selections of her blown & flameworked glass + slipcast porcelain vases in INTRO opening 6/5.

Countdown to our bi-annual INTRO group exhibition opening 6/5. Australian artist Daniel O’Toole’s synthetic polymer on di-bond panel, aluminium frame, mirror inlay and acrylic face works are an exploration of colour field paintings. The combination of the frosted acrylic screens with discreetly placed mirrors on the inside edges of the frames allow O’Toole to build perceptual experiences that shift as the viewer moves around them.
