Yesterday, our ZFL dancers had the honor of performing “The Lotus Flower” at the Bloom Summit, hosted by More Than My Pretty Face
Set to the powerful song “The Truth” by Megan Woods, this piece tells a story that reaches far beyond dance. It represents the emotional journeys, challenges, pressures, and thoughts that so many teenagers navigate in today’s society.
The symbolism of the lotus flower is what makes this piece so meaningful. A lotus begins its journey beneath the surface, rooted in mud, pushing through darkness and murky waters before rising to bloom into something beautiful.
Our dancers began their journey on the ground, moving through life and space, symbolizing the obstacles, insecurities, expectations, and internal battles that teenagers often face. The weight of the world can sometimes make it difficult to recognize their own beauty, strength, and worth. But just like the lotus flower, they RISE. As the dancers rose from the ground, they represented the moment we begin to recognize that our circumstances do not define us. That we are strong enough to overcome challenges, worthy of love, and beautifully created by God with intention and purpose. The piece ends with our dancers returning to the ground, but this time, not in defeat. They return in surrender.
Surrendering to God’s will, His timing, and the path He has already designed for their lives. Trusting that even when they cannot see what lies ahead, He is guiding their growth. Because sometimes being grounded isn’t about being stuck. It’s about being planted.

And when God says it’s time, they will RISE. They will BLOOM. And they will become everything He created them to be.
Not because the world has shaped them into something different, but because they were beautifully and wonderfully made from the very beginning.
Unchanged in their worth. Unshaken in their purpose. Untouched in the beauty of God’s design.
Thank you to More Than My Pretty Face for creating a space where young people can be reminded of their value, their voice, and their purpose. We are grateful our dancers could share this message through the art of movement.
