Red Calaca Studio The Red Calaca "Ka-la-ka" Studio features original works by Mexican artist Rosalia Torres-Weiner. Community engagement fuels my creative process.

From public murals, to the Papalote Project workshops, to The Magic Kite, I have done some of my best work when working with my community. When the food truck scene started to grow in popularity in Charlotte, I had an idea! What if I had an “Art Truck” that I could use to bring my art into the streets and neighborhoods of the city, taking art directly to the people. Last month, I took a big step in making this dream a reality by purchasing a 24’ step van. The truck was a great find – it was built as a demonstration vehicle by the company I purchased it from, and it has great “bones” for my project. It is already outfitted with lights, speakers, a 46” LCD TV Monitor, and an
8’x10’ awning.

Thanks to a Creative Growth Grant from the City of Charlotte, I’m able to offer FREE art workshops to families in underserved areas in Charlotte ☺️ no cost, no barriers, just creativity and connection. ✨
This is so much more than painting. It’s healing. It’s empowerment. It’s reminding every child and every familia that their story matters and their voice deserves to be heard.
When you put art in someone’s hands, you hand them a way to process, to dream, and to rise. That’s the magic I live for. ❤️

What a night at the ‘I Am Your Neighbor’ gala with Refugee Support Services Refugee Support Services.

RSS is the only post-resettlement agency in greater Charlotte, welcoming refugees and immigrants from more than 50 countries with food, education, mentorship, and belonging. This is exactly why I use my art to support them — because no one should ever arrive here feeling alone. When we lift up our newest neighbors, our whole community grows stronger. 🌍❤️

I was honored to donate one of my paintings to support their mission, surrounded by a room full of people who believe in welcome. 🎨

I got to reconnect with old friends and make beautiful new ones — nights like this remind me why community is everything. 🥰

And a special thank you to my talented friend PQ Jeweler • One-of-a-Kind Gemstone & Art Jewelry 🪬❣️ for loaning me the stunning talisman piece I wore — wearing art by an artist I admire made the evening even more meaningful. ✨

🥹🙏🏽 Today, 9/11, marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon😢

It was my day off as a flight attendant. I was home when I saw the news 😢 and one of the planes they used was the same route I flew internationally.

I quit soon after. Not out of fear, but because my Ben begged me to think about our young children. He reminded me that I could make it with my art 🎨that I could launch the career I have today. Many of us left the skies after that day #911

But in that moment, my only thoughts were of the flight crews on those planes — my friends, the ones I had flown beside. It’s still hard not to think of them. 🕊️

Being a flight attendant was my dream job. Helping families with little ones, accommodating travelers, working hard when we were short-staffed, staying alert and reporting anything that felt wrong to my captain. Traveling the world — and taking my mom and my family places I’d only dreamed of.

Thank you, universe, for the chance to become an artist and do the very same thing I did in the air: help people. Now I do it on land, with my art truck, making a little difference one familia at a time. 🚚🎨 Ben, thanks for believing in me 🙏🏾

When you enter our home… BOOM💥 I tell you the stories I protect. 🪽

These pieces are heading to Maryland Hall now, and I’m used to parting with my art for a year — sometimes three as it travels, telling powerful stories to people I’ll never meet.

That’s the life of an ARTivist. My work doesn’t stay still; it goes where the stories need to be heard.
