Jennifer Mecca is one of the founding members of Thrown Together makes functional work that is thrown, altered and full of color and imagined floral references. She has been teaching for over 25 years while maintaining a working studio from her home in Gaston County.

Say Hello “To Wendy Wrenn

Wendy got her degree University of North Carolina at Charlotte - Bachelor of Science in Biology and then continued on to Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC for an Associates Degree in Professional Crafts.

“For me, creating functional ceramics is a visceral process where simplicity and truth merge. In a fast-paced culture that is removed from nature, it is through the creation and use of handmade objects that we can slow our pace and reconnect with the world around us. “
She is currently living in Floyd, Virginia working as a studio potter. And her pots are made of porcelain clay and is fired in a gas kiln to cone 10. All pots are safe for microwave, dishwasher, and oven.

We are Welcoming Betty McKim and her one of a kind sterling silver and gold handmade it jewelry will be joining us again.

In Betty’s own words~ “My jewelry is about structure and shapes with movement. Textural surfaces embellish the forms and give each piece a unique quality. My inspirations are reflections of visual editing and the abstracting of nature and my surroundings. The spoke shape has an energy that radiates and reminds me of an industrial flower, spinning wheel or sunburst.
I restructure and abstract this shape, as you will see it appears throughout my work. The work is always a sensitive combination of restraint and indulgence.”

Betty received her MFA in jewelry from ECU and has taught at many art centers in the Triangle area for over 30 years. She has also taught workshops and has assisted at some of the top craft schools in the country.

We look forward to having Betty
join our group of guests along with Amber, Wendy and Sarah.

☀️Meet Sarah McCarthy! 😀
Sarah is a potter from Floyd, Virginia.

In Sarah own words ~ 🗣️”My surface designs are inspired by children’s art and perspective. The bright color is influenced by summer flowers and the art and culture of Latin America. My pots are fired in an electric kiln to cone 6.

I am a self-taught potter who gained my foundation in ceramics from the great potters who taught at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in the early 2000s. I started my journey with a studio space at the Floyd Center for the Arts in Floyd where I made and sold work and benefitted from resources and kilns as a new artist. I create at my home studio and gallery in the mountains of Floyd.

As well as being a potter, I am a Zen student, tea afficionado, cyclist, and enjoy goofing around in the sun with my family.

🗣️Our sale on the 24th will go from 10 - 4 with an online event on the 30th, at noon.
