I sat next to a woman and her daughter on the plane β€” they were from just outside Barcelona. As we flew, she noticed me sketching the early stages of a new drawing. Just before we landed, she leaned over and told me it reminded her of home. She pulled up photos on her phone, and I was stunned β€” the resemblance was uncanny. The window I’d drawn matched hers exactly, and the surrounding landscape, with its mountains and sea, was nearly identical. I got goosebumps. What are the odds that I would randomly sketch this scene and end up sitting right next to someone it belonged to?

Travel has a way of bringing you to people whose stories stay with you long after the journey ends.
