Applications are officially open for the ASC’s Venue Access 2027 Grants 🎉

The Arts & Science Council's Venue Access Grant is live — up to $20k to help cover venue costs for your 2027 arts, science, history, or heritage programming. Meaning you can rent The Long Room for FREE!

Whether you're a creative individual or a nonprofit organization, this grant exists to make sure the right space isn't the thing standing between you and the work you want to bring to Mecklenburg County.

Q***r Tango Night is TOMORROW — Saturday, August 22 at The Long Room, hosted with and 💃

Two ways to join us:
🌅 Q***r Tango Social from 5–7 PM
🌙 Q***r Tango After Dark from 8–10 PM

Both include professional instruction, a multi-course tasting served between moments of instruction, and a room full of people who are glad you came. Open to the q***r community and allies, this is a space where everyone can feel welcome, connected, and confident on the dance floor. We will teach lead and follow equally to everyone!

You're invited to Q***r Tango Night 💃 Hosted by How Sanguine, The Long Room, and Tango CLT!

Q***r Tango Night takes place THIS SATURDAY, August 22 at The Long Room. Join us for one of two time slots: Q***r Tango Social at 5-7 PM and Q***r Tango After Dark from 8-10 PM!

Whether you've been on the dance floor for years or want to try something new, everyone is welcome. This evening is designed for the q***r community and our allies.

One week out: The ASC Venue Access Grant application for 2027 programming opens Monday, August 24 at noon ‼️

A few things to know before it opens:
🌟 Up to $20k in funding for venue space (so you can rent The Long Room for FREE!)
☝️ New this cycle: one application per applicant, per cycle
🤍 Open to both creative individuals AND nonprofits

Events can be a single performance, a run of rehearsals and performances, or recurring events happening within a three-month period.

The application window is only open for ONE MONTH, closing on September 22. Start gathering your materials now if you're planning to apply ✅

Summer's winding down — go out with a dance 💃 New Dancer Night: Tango for Absolute Beginners is this Wednesday!

New Dancer Night is back on August 19, and there's no better way to spend your evening than trying something new. Come for the beginner tango lesson, stay for the social dancing, snacks, and a room full of new friends.

It’s a common issue for Charlotte-area creatives to not have access to or funding for space to create. The ASC’s Venue Access Grant is working to solve that.

If access to space has been holding your creative project back, this is for you!

Eligible creatives and nonprofit organizations can rent The Long Room at NO COST, removing one of the biggest barriers to bringing ideas to life.

August has always felt like a month of transition 🍂 When Matt was a high school English teacher, it marked the end of glorious summer and the beginning of a brand new school year, back in the classroom, even when it was still scorching hot outside. And growing up up north, the days grew noticeably shorter, and you could sense the fall coming in the wind.

But here in Carolina, summer is still very much with us for one more month! Before summer slips away, we have some fantastic events lined up at The Long Room!

Two big announcements this month:

🎨 The 2027 Venue Access Grant goes LIVE on Monday, August 24! Artists and creatives, you can get one event at The Long Room for FREE in 2027. Individuals can apply for up to $10k, nonprofits up to $20k. This is the only window this grant will be open for 2027 — start planning now!

☕ Coffee is coming back to The Long Room! We are so excited to welcome Olivia Tegner, experienced barista and former Charlotte Ballet II dancer, who will be launching a new coffee program. Launching September 6 at 's Tango Brunch!

Here's what you need to know:

1️⃣ Application opens: Monday, August 24 at noon
2️⃣ Deadline: Tuesday, September 22 at noon
3️⃣ Funding: Up to $20k toward venue space
4️⃣ Programming window: Events must take place Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2027
5️⃣ Who: Separate applications for creative individuals and nonprofits
