The phone call in question was made from a boat carrying Nolan Wells and his friends, operating under the Sea Tow towing service, and it originated from the west tip of Horn Island, Mississippi. According to the emergency call obtained by WLOX the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, the boat’s operator contacted Sea Tow around 4 p.m. on July 4, 2026, reporting that the bilge pump had stopped working and the vessel was sinking. The caller provided GPS coordinates and asked for the boat to be towed to Fort Bayou launch. The call was made by one of Wells’ friends, and enhanced audio has led some listeners to interpret background chatter as possibly including the phrase “Is he dead?” and other urgent phrases like “Check his chest” and “wake up” TMZ. However, these interpretations have not been confirmed by authorities, and the boat operator’s grandfather, Jerry Adkerson, later told the dispatcher that the situation was under control and no assistance was needed.
In summary, the call came from a Horn Island boat that had left the island earlier that day, and it was part of the emergency communication when the vessel began taking on water.
