In His Sermon on the Mount, (Matthew 5:21–22), Jesus taught us that God doesn’t only care about the final act; He cares about what fuels it; hatred, contempt, “othering,” and the mindset that makes harm feel justified.
Two lives are gone in Minneapolis, and people are angry, scared, and exhausted.
Jesus didn’t just say “don’t murder.” He went deeper: watch the anger, contempt, and dehumanizing talk that makes violence feel normal.
If your language turns people into “problems,” “illegals,” “animals,” or “targets,” you’re not just expressing an opinion:
➡️ you’re laying tracks that lead somewhere dark.
I’m not here for chaos. I’m here for truth, accountability, and a culture where human life is treated as sacred.
Let us pray:
God of justice and mercy, we grieve the loss of life and the fear spreading through our communities. Search our hearts and strip out anger that turns into contempt and contempt that turns people into objects. Help leaders act with restraint and wisdom. Bring truth into the light, protect the innocent, and hold the wrong accountable. Heal families, calm streets, and guide us to be peacemakers who don’t ignore injustice. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
