Tonight, we performed at Charlestown’s StoveFactory Gallery and Gardens for Charlestown as part of the Summer Solstice Stroll! Three pop up plays by Stephanie K Brownell, directed by Tyler Prendergast, and featuring Kimberly MacCormack, Miranda Reilly, and Samuel Zoidberg. Thanks to Charlestown Working Theater for inviting us to participate!

Meet the Playwrightz! Our fifth and final playwright is Kelly Smith, who makes her Shotz Boston debut tomorrow night at You've Shotz Mail!

Kelly is a writer, director, and all around theatre artist. Kelly has worked with Second Act Productions, Sleeping Weazel, Fresh Ink, Titanic Theatre Company, Maiden Phoenix, Brown Box, Open Theatre Project, Solas Nua, Hub Theatre, and Playwright's Platform among others. Her play Raining Aluminum (finalist – Best Drama - NH Theater Awards) premiered last year with theatreKapow and she designed props for PF Pictures’ Artificial Leaf, 2nd place winner of the Focus Forward Competition at Sundance Film Festival. Kelly is a co-founder of AKA Theatre Company and is the producer of Grown Up Story Time, a monthly storytelling event in Somerville.

Meet the Playwrightz! This Sunday's You've Shotz Mail will be Jamie Hovis' ELEVENTH round of Shotz Boston, having previously written pieces for 2013's 404: Shotz Not Found and The Shotz Experiment, 2014's Shotz Through The Heart, Hit Me With Your Best Shotz, Cheap Shotz, and All I Want for Xmas is Shotz, 2015's Some Like It Shotz, The Shotz Anthology of Literature, and The Shotz Holiday Party, and 2016's LongShotz: Maybe When You're Older.

Jamie's plays have received readings and performances at Piney Fork Theater, Horizon Theatre Company, Emerson College Newfest, Interim Writers, the Boston Theatre Marathon, and several previous Shotz shows. He's honored to have been invited back for another. In addition to playwriting, Jamie writes short fiction and is editor-in-chief of local lit mag The Cantabrigian Magazine, which just released its second issue available at Porter Sq. Books and the Brookline Booksmith.

Meet the Playwrightz! This Sunday's You've Shotz Mail will be Bill Doncaster's EIGHTH time writing for Shotz Boston, having previously written pieces for 2013's The Shotz Experiment; 2014's Shotz Through the Heart, Hit Me With Your Best Shotz, Cheap Shotz, Big Shotz, and Shotz in the Sky With Diamonds; and 2015's Some Like It Shotz.

Bill is a playwright, producer, and director and co-founder of Stickball Productionsm, an occasional theater company. His play Two Boys Lost was a 2015 Elliot Norton Award nominee for Outstanding New Script and Outstanding Production by a Fringe Company, and a 2015 Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) nominee for Best New Play, along with four "best actor" nominations. His adaptation of George V. Higgins’ The Friends of Eddie Coyle played to sold out performances first at OBERON, and then again as part of the Emerging America Festival by invitation of the American Repertory Theater in 2012. His short plays have been produced in Boston, New York, Chicago, Louisiana, and Florida, and his short play A Mended Memory was a 2014 Kennedy Center American Theater Festival Region I Finalist. He made his directorial debut in 2013 with Bouncers by John Godber at the “historic” Cantab Lounge. He was part of the inagurual "Boston Project" in 2016 at The Speakeasy Stage Company, who commissioned his play Ward Nine.

Meet the Playwrightz: Lindsay Carpenter returns to Shotz Boston for the first time since 2013's Attack of the Killer Shotz from Outer Space!

Lindsay’s plays include Day Father, Borders, ___ is a ra**st, Knappogue, Bennie, Superhero, and Little Red: A Choose Your Own Adventure Story. Her work has been produced and developed by Theatre Lab at FAU, Theatre Battery, Women’s Theatre Festival, The 14/48 Projects, Barnyard Theatre, and ACME Theatre Company. In 2015, she received the Kennedy Center ACTF National Undergraduate Playwriting Award for her play Borders.

Meet the Playwrightz! You've Shotz Mail will be Stephanie K Brownell's fourth time writing for Shotz Boston, having previously written for Shotz Down the Rabbit Hole, The Shotz Anthology of Literature, and Some Like It Shotz!

Stephanie K Brownell is a multidisciplinary artist holding an MFA in Playwriting from Boston University. She publishes in fiction, poetry, and drama. She is a winner of the National Partners of the American Theatre Playwriting Excellence Award, a Gary Garrison Award national finalist, and an alumna of Company One PlayLab, the O'Neill Playwright Observers, and Taleamor Park. Stephanie teaches writing at Bentley University and GrubStreet Writing Center while freelancing as a costume designer in Boston. Local collaborators include Company One, Boston Playwrights' Theatre, New Rep, Greater Boston Stage Company, Boston Symphony Orchestra, American Repertory Theatre, Apollinaire Theatre, Titanic Theatre, Flat Earth, Bridge Rep and more. Upcoming plays: Chop (Dorchester Arts Project, July 12) and This Place/Displacement (Artists' Theatre of Boston, August 16-25). Upcoming costume designs: Leave Me Alone! Shotz is a theatrical pressure cooker: playwrights have 1.5 weeks to write short plays based around 3 themes. Then, directors and actors have 1.5 weeks to put the pieces together — to be performed for 1 night only.

We're currently seeking artists for our June round, You've Shotz Mail, marking the 20th anniversary of the Nora Ephron rom-com (and greatest film ever made), You've Got Mail. Like Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in the movie, each of our as-yet-unwritten short plays will feature characters who connect via means that are brand new to them—whether that means Snapchat, telegrams, or something that hasn’t been invented yet.
