What can you do with your Governor’s School for the Arts experience? Ash Chenoweth, a digital art student in summer 2026 GSA, was accepted into the West Virginia Youth Film Festival in Charleston on Saturday, Aug. 8. The film festival is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Park Place Cinemas. Working under GSA faculty member Jon Benjamin, associate professor of graphic design at WVWC, digital art students also collaborated with students from creative writing and theater. Ash worked with GSA student Chanel Dowell to write the screenplay and GSA students Rowen Sumpter and Sarah Dew who acted in the film. WVWC recently announced it will host GSA for another three-year timeline.

The West Virginia Youth Film Festival is holding their third annual screening event at Park Place Cinema in Charleston, West Virginia on Saturday Aug. 8, 2026 at 4 p.m. The festival will showcase 16 different short films from filmmakers under 24 years old.
