This will be the final post I make on this page. I’ve ventured out into some extra cool stuff, still revolving around reclaimed wood, but not just music gear. If you’re interested in following a page that does all kinds of awesome CNC carving and design, go ahead and give my page “Beacon Trades SC” a follow. I’ll even follow you back! But not I. The creepy way😎. Probably.

I’ve always been a guy with several irons in the fire, keeping busy doing a variety of things. In the last 18 months I’ve re-started my construction company, started building a cabin in the woods, went to the WNC to aid storm relief, helped my son launch his business and actually got to record a few original songs! But there are only so many hours in the day. And as I age, I end up not being able to work seven 12’s any more, so something had to give.

As of today I’m officially shutting down Reclaimed Rhythm. I’ll be clearing out the last of the inventory I have at 60-80% discounts. There will be cigar box guitars and amps, lots of bodies in various stages of finish, a few completed six strings and even miscellaneous parts. I’ll post each item on this page and take it down when it’s sold. If you live away from Charleston and would like an item, message the page and I will provide you with a shipping quote.

I did my last vendor show over the weekend and my awning leg broke as I was taking it down. If that’s not a sign, I don’t know what is!

Keep an eye on this space for instruments and parts at prices you will never see again!

A little before and after action. Applying finish is absolutely my favorite part of the job!

I’d like to thank Anna Sharpe for this wonderful article about Reclaimed Rhythm! She has also mentioned my sons business which was very kind. We are most definitely an entrepreneurial family and it’s very gratifying to have something as important in our community as the recognize our efforts. If you’re interested to hear what Anna has to say, I’ve left a link in the bio. While you’re there go over and check out the YouTube video that’s also linked.

And here’s the final product. Old map feel with pirate skulls. Now, what neck shall we make for it?

This is how you take a bright maple body and age it. First, let steel wool soak in white vinegar for a few days. Then brush the vinegar into the body. If you let it dry naturally the vinegar will react with the tannin in the wood and turn ever so slightly grey. But if you use a heat gun to dry the vinegar out it will be a much deeper grey, as the video clip above demonstrates. I repeated the process on this guitar hoping for an old map look. Seemed appropriate with pirate skulls!

Guess who got a new toy (it’s me!). While it’s a hobbiest level laser engraver, if you can outsmart the machine you can make it burn stuff that’s normally too big for it! Also, I got fed up with the Tele style one day about a year ago and made this, uh, unique? body. Definitely different. And it’s gonna be very tropical and piratey by the time I’m done.

Here’s the next evolution in my pseudo acoustic journey. It’s entirely hollow except for where the bridge goes. We’ll see if it comes even close to being as resonant as the 3 string version.

Dipping toes into acoustic building. At the moment it’s not proper acoustics but what can only be described as hollow bodys. This was a bunch of scrap literally dug from the trash at my shop. Aromatic cedar top rescued from a tree on a gentleman’s property on Edisto Island.
