Waterfront Park, is owned by the City of Charleston and operated by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs. The gallery's exhibition program features contemporary art from local, regional, national and international artists, with a focus on Lowcountry artists. City Gallery provides access to the visual arts for everyone in Charleston, SC, visitors and residents alike, by offering exhibits that are admission-free.

What is a juried art exhibition?

For the annual MOJA Arts Festival Juried Art Exhibition, artists submit recent work for review by an invited juror. From those submissions, the juror selects a limited number of pieces for display and identifies works to receive exhibition prizes.

This year’s juror, artist and gallerist Arun Drummond, selected works in painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking and photography by artists from across the region.

And the award winners are:

🥇 First Place – Hearken by Sabrina White
🥈 Second Place – Community & Computer by Heather Conyers
🥉 Third Place – Mitochondrial Eve by Colleen Cannon-Karlos

The 2026 MOJA Arts Festival Juried Art Exhibition opens today, Friday, September 25, at City Gallery! Join us this evening for the Opening Reception from 5-7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public!

Selected by juror Arun Drummond, this annual exhibition highlights recent work by artists from across South Carolina and communities near the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor in Georgia and North Carolina.

Experience a juried selection of painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and photography reflecting the creativity and perspectives of artists throughout the region.

Peninsula Plan Open Studios are informal, drop-in events where you can talk with City staff, see work in progress and learn more about projects impacting the Peninsula.

Every artist has a favorite piece—but what happens when you ask an artist to choose their favorite artwork in their own exhibition?

Today, we're asking Ashleigh Coleman to share the work that speaks to her most and why it holds a special place in her heart. Her answer might surprise you!

"One of my favorite pieces in this exhibition is a photograph that I have not shown before— Can’t Quit. It is a portrait of my youngest wearing my husband’s 35-year-old sweatshirt. The quiet defiance of refusing to quit sucking her fingers and also refusing to come inside that evening but instead laying down in the driveway in front of the minivan makes me laugh even now as I relate to the desire to just sprawl out in protest some days."
