Kaitlyn and Sophie are an experienced pair of muralists with big ideas and bigger ambitions. They take an otherwise boring surface and add life to it. An elementary art teacher and a graphic designer, they take on the name “The Color Chemists”, painting murals ranging from Lowcountry landscapes to school-spirited typography. Their endeavor as muralists originally started as a way to make some extr

a cash in the summers. They teamed up in 2011 to tackle the bare walls of an enormous new high school in Walterboro, essentially learning the ins & outs of the art-form through trial and error. But with each completed project came more and more word-of-mouth clients, giving the pair the opportunity to branch out and paint murals for clients ranging from restaurants and schools to hair salons and museums. Even though they might not wear lab coats, their visual concoctions create a base of creativity and imagination that has the ability to inspire anyone, big or small.

We're back from the holidays and are continuing to tackle this guy head on! If it feels like we've been painting this mural forever- you are right. But when you are seasonal muralists it gets tough to paint during the school year when one of us is a teacher and the other is a graphic designer. Typically summer is our "painting season" but when an opportunity to paint a mural like this comes along you buckle down and work 7 days a week til she's done!
