CHARLESTON, WV β€” Logan County native Mike Collins, a staff member at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College and a nationally respected author who writes under the pseudonym Michael Knost, said he was deeply humbled and honored during a special ceremony held Wednesday, May 20, at the West Virginia State Capitol, where Governor Patrick Morrisey presented him with the Distinguished West Virginian Award.

Reflecting on the recognition, Collins said, β€œI’m deeply grateful to Governor Morrisey for this incredible honor, to Delegate Margitta Mazzocchi and her husband Eugene for the nomination, and to all the family members, friends, and colleagues in attendance who made the day so meaningful and memorable.”

The Distinguished West Virginian Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Governor of West Virginia. It recognizes individuals for exceptional achievement, meritorious service, and significant contributions to both the state and the nation. The award celebrates those whose leadership, accomplishments, and character bring pride and positive recognition to the Mountain State.

In addition to receiving the Distinguished West Virginian Award, Collins, a former Woodland Press author, is a two-time Bram Stoker Award recipient and a finalist for the Spur Award presented by the Western Writers of America.

Collins and his family reside in Chapmanville, WV.
