Actors Improv Theater Actors Improv Theater: If you laugh we're doing comedy; if you don't we're doing drama.

Transactors Improv is the longest-running improvisational theater in the South. Our work focuses on emotion, physicality, character, commitment, teamwork, and fun. The company formed in 1983 at The ArtsSchool in Carrboro, NC, as a children’s theater. Much of its work was scripted, but over time the group metamorphosed into a professional touring company performing improvisational theater for audie

nces of all ages. Transactors Improv performs primarily in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill although it has appeared coast to coast and from Florida to Canada. The company has been heard on National Public Radio and the Canadian Broadcasting Co. Transactors Improv also teaches people of all ages in a wide variety of venues, from corporations and colleges to elementary schools and arts camps. Members of Transactors Improv have had the opportunity to study individually and collectively with the leading lights of improv, including Groundlings founder Gary Austin, Joe Bill, Del Close, Martin de Maat, Charna Halpern, Keith Johnstone, Annoyance Theater’s Mick Napier, Second City, Paul Sills, and Mark Sutton. Based in Chapel Hill, NC, Transactors Improv is a not-for-profit corporation and has been supported in part by grants from the Orange County Arts Commission and the North Carolina Arts Council.

Show this Friday! Feb. 13, 7:30-9:00 PM, The ArtsCenter, Carrboro

We present The Love Show, our annual musical exploration of the joys and sorrows of romantic love. Five scenes focusing on aspects of relationships, from the blush of infatuation to the despair of breakups, make up the show. As always, the show is based on audience suggestions.

Parker Bach, Hailey Hill, director Greg Hohn, and Dana Marks comprise the cast. Piano accompanist Glenn Mehrbach teams with cellist/bassist Robbie Link.

“I’m still catching my breath from your Valentine’s Day Musical tour de force. I’m always amazed at the ability of great improvisers to seamlessly build character and narrative, but to successfully add music feels nothing short of heroic… I’ve seen many great shows in New York and London but this one left me breathless.” – Elizabeth A., Chapel Hill

Tickets: $25 general, $15 student

Whether they’re out on the range or in town, cowboys gotta find that holiday spirit too. This musical celebration promises not so much to be based on historical facts as to be inspired by rootin’ tootin’ archetypes. It’s all made up on the spot and based on audience suggestions.

“I want you to know that I’m an Equity actress and it’s not just that I enjoyed your performance, it’s closer to say I was amazed at the quality and kind of improv that you did…”
– Donna G., Atlanta
