Schoolkids Records in Chapel Hill closed its doors after 50 years. The store announced its closing in August, citing financial constraints.

So I've decided to make this coming weekend the last for Schoolkids Records - Chapel Hill. I need to be in my Schoolkids Records - Raleigh location for the duration of the year to maximize the holidays and final stretch so we can end the year on a high note. There are still about 2 fixtures of vinyl and 8 fixtures of CDs and Cassettes left in the store. We will mark everything 50% off going into the weekend for the final push!

I still have a handful of Vinyl and CD Fixtures left that are for sale. A few are ready to go now, the rest I can coordinate if you are interesting in buying. See link below for pics. They are great and very durable, have lasted decades. I took what I needed to Raleigh and have sold a few to customers.. but I have several more left. I would hate to throw them away but that is what will happen if they are not purchased by this weekend.

Here are our hours for the rest of the week:
Tuesday 11/26: 11am-5pm
Wednesday 11/27: 11am-7pm
Thursday 11/28: Closed for Thanksgiving
Friday 11/29 (Black Friday): 11am-7pm
Saturday 11/30 (Small Biz Saturday): 11am-7pm

I will be in the store from 11am-5pm Sunday 12/1 packing up the final inventory to take to Schoolkids Records - Raleigh
so that will be the last official day.

after that, you can find me in Raleigh full-time.

11 years later, WRAL TV is re-running the WRAL Tar Heel Traveler feature on Schoolkids Records - Raleigh in honor of our recent decision to close our Schoolkids Records - Chapel Hill location at year-end. It will air Thursday evening, 8/29/24 during the 5:30 newscast. They will update everyone since our move to Mission Valley after this aired, our 50th Anniversary and GFM campaign to renovate the Raleigh store. Tune in! here is the story when it originally aired in 2013. yikes, its scary to look back 10 years and realize how much we've aged.

I wanted to take this moment to thank everyone for their incredible outpouring of love & support since announcing the closing of our Schoolkids Records - Chapel Hill location at year-end. I have received hundreds of emails, text messages, phone calls, social media messages and personal visits from customers, friends, family, colleagues, artists past and present on our in-house label and appreciate each and every one of you for your kind words and support. We have been extremely busy over the last week (in both stores) since the announcement and thank you for everything, that boost was needed for us financially and also emotionally. Thank you thank you thank you.

The press has also been great, having coverage in all areas of local media from ABC, NBC, CBS, The Indy, N&O and forthcoming coverage with the Daily Tarheel, Spectrum News and NPR. In case you missed some of it, there are links below, including actual TV coverage from ABC 11’s 5:30 news last week.

In the meantime, please keep our Go Fund Me page on your radar, as we near year-end and into 2025 with our Schoolkids Records - Raleigh location. We could use any and all support there for our 50th Anniversary renovations. Everything y’all are doing in the stores right now is helping so much but we just wanna thank you and keep the momentum going.

The last planned day in Chapel Hill will be New Year’s Eve, 12/31/24. We still have plenty of stock left however a lot of the posters have already sold out over the last week, but there is still plenty of time and merchandise available.
