💥This tattoo was SO FUN to commemorate a CRAZY summer job!

Lauren worked for the forest service doing controlled burns, a necessary part of the longleaf pine life cycle, this summer. North Carolina used to have huge long leaf pine forests, but they were mostly destroyed by the 1930s. Now there’s efforts to replenish those environments, across the eastern and piedmont regions.

The red cockaded woodpecker lives in the longleaf pines, so Lauren chose a woodpecker skull with burning matches to remember the experience. These woodpeckers have recently graduated from endangered to threatened, due to the long leaf pine restoration efforts!

I needed a screen break… so these guys were drawn on paper with colored pencil… and I think I’ll be sticking to that format for flash for the time being! As convenient as digital art is, there’s something special about drawing on paper ✨
