Wonderful soloists (including Urbana native Katie Buzard) will join the BACH choir at the free opening concert of the Five Cities Baroque Festival on June 16!
This week's series focuses on our soloists at our opening concert - Five Cities Baroque Presents: Baroque Artists of Champaign Urbana! Our soprano soloist on this concert is a Festival stalwart, Katie Buzard.
Praised for her “deluxe tone quality” and “mature understanding of phrasing” (Vocal Arts Chicago), soprano Katherine Buzard has sung a wide variety of concert and operatic repertoire as a soloist, including Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and a number of Bach oratorios and cantatas. She is also a committed choral singer, performing frequently with choral ensembles in Chicago and beyond, including the Music of the Baroque Chorus, Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Grant Park Music Festival Chorus, Apollo's Fire Baroque Orchestra, and St. James Cathedral Choir. Katherine received degrees from the Royal College of Music in London and Princeton University and was awarded the Margaret Fabian Elath Scholarship through the Musicians Club of Women in 2019.
We're thrilled to feature Katie once again this year, both at our opening concert and at our culminating performances - The Five Cities Baroque Festival: Handel’s “Israel in Egypt” (Decatur performance) and The Five Cities Baroque Festival: Handel’s “Israel in Egypt” (Springfield performance).
