INNER VOICES Social Issues Theatre focuses on salient issues for the university community through performances followed by engaging post-performance dialogues. Using the performance as a catalyst for discussion, audience members have the opportunity to engage with one another as they consider how subtle and not-so-subtle actions and behaviors in everyday situations affect thoughts, attitudes, mind
sets, and ultimately, the well-being and social relations of a community and its members. Support materials and follow-up references relevant to the topic are also provided. Live theatre is a rare, dynamic, social space occupied not only by people, but also by possibility. The program provides an opportunity for students to be actively engaged in the process of creating, performing, and facilitating social issues theatre—all while earning academic credit. INNER VOICES is available throughout the semester and addresses health and wellness concerns such as substance abuse, sexual health, anxiety, depression, and body image. INNER VOICES also examines social issues such as gender identity, economic justice, heterosexism, racism, dating violence, gender equity, hate crimes, and sexual assault,
Each show is designed to be intensely engaging, enjoyable, informative, and challenging. Shows feature a 20-50 minute performance that is then followed by the post-show dialogue.
