I've been painting some judgy looking birds and it amuses me. Maybe this is a gateway to bird-watching? I dunno. I'm working a few more of these paintings in a little series, so more to come.

I've been having a hard time finishing anything lately -- or even sitting down to paint, honestly. I think it's a combination of reasons: general fatigue, boredom with my traditional subject matter, a less-than-stellar first market of the year, and various life distractions, among other things.

I recently stumbled across a Facebook group of free animal reference photos shared by the people who actually took said photos (no AI, thank God) and found myself wanting to paint some of them. Most of what I've done are basically sketches, but I put a little more time and effort into this one. I might eventually add a background, but for now it feels good to paint something I'm happy with, that could be considered complete as is.

I've been doing a lot of pencil sketches and drawings which will hopefully become a whole new batch of paintings for this summer's markets. Some of it's my usual kind of stuff, but some of it will be a little new and different for me, which I think my creative practice needs right now. More updates soon, hopefully. :)

BONEYARD ARTS FESTIVAL IS THIS WEEKEND 🎨🖼

Find my art at the Color and Form show at -- I'll be here today until 6om and tomorrow afternoon 1-5pm, but the exhibit space is open until 10pm both days if you want to come later. I have a few new pieces and there are 20 other artists here showing work as well.

I applied for a handful of markets today to get my 2026 started, after a much-needed break from the business part of this art business. I'm feeling ready to get back out there and connect with you all in person again over some art and I've got lots of new things in the works.

These are a couple of journals I made with my paintings -- the image wraps around the front and back cover, and it finally occurred to me that I could show both in the same image by using two journals. 😂 These will be posted in my Etsy shop soon, but you'll also be able to find them in my booths this spring! I'll share as soon as I have market app updates.

Thank you for your support of me and Fairy Tree Studios this year; it was my best year yet! I'll share more later but I'm excited to continue the momentum in 2026 -- after a rest to spend time with my people. ❤️

One last market! 🌟
Today is the last Mistletoe Market of the year and Fairy Tree Studios' last in-person event of 2025! Brave the snow if you can and come by Lincoln Square Mall until 4pm to see the works of 30+ artists and craftspeople. There's still lots of good stuff left!

Here's a little preview of the theme for my 2026 calendar, including this first painting which I just finished last night. Flowers, flowers, and more flowers, this time in gouache. What can I say? Years after getting back into painting, they're still one of my favorite subjects.

I'm planning to have my calendars ready for the first Mistletoe Market at the Orpheum in Champaign on Nov 22, but you just might be able to snag one from my booth at the Vault in Tuscola in the beginning of November if I manage to finish them in time. :)
