Today, Savannah’s yearly celebration of the American Revolutionary War was well attended. Yes, forebears from Haiti—then the French colony of Saint-Domingue—contributed directly to the American Revolution through military service.
The Siege of Savannah (1779): More than 500 free Black men from Saint-Domingue, known as the Chasseurs-Volontaires de Saint-Domingue, fought alongside American and French forces against the British during the American Revolutionary War. (The Kansas City Defender)
The youngest Haitian soldier (drummer boy) Henri Christophe grew up to become President 1807 and fought for Haiti to gain their independence from France.
