Another composer project complete over here at Sand Dollar Music! Sand Dollar violinist, Brielle B., came to her lesson and shared with her instructor, Miss Caroline Benton, a fun fact about Vivaldi.

We love watching our students dive into classical music, learn about their musical heritage, and appreciate all musical genres!

We love seeing our students share their gifts with others, and Mia did just that when she performed Twinkle, Twinkle Variations at her school’s talent show!

Mia’s violin instructor, Caroline, is always encouraging Mia to perform confidently and she did just that!

Often, it’s…not.
Just like life.

Music lessons don’t feel like a day at King’s Island. And that’s ok. Because a music educator’s job isn’t to entertain; it’s to equip. We have a lot of fun doing that—but if we make fun the goal, we’ve lost the plot.

Practicing is hard.
Performing is hard.
LIFE is hard.

And we want our students to know that, on or offstage, they’ve got what it takes—that they can do hard things.

Musicianship skills are life skills.♥️

There’s not a right way to sing. But there IS a right time to start.(It’s now.)

Our teachers are always brainstorming ways in which to create fun learning opportunities for our students. Our violin instructor, Caroline Benton, came up with a great one!

She asked her students to do a composer project in which they had to choose one composer, listen to their music, and share what they learned with her at their next lesson.

Her student, Juliet, really enjoyed Swan Lake and had some fun things to share with us about Tchaikovsky! What a great way to create some contagious learning!

We’re all in accord(ion) that Joshua’s lessons are so fun because he brings in whatever he’s working on outside of lessons — from his theory homework to his newest musical acquisition 🎹!

He and Coleman (who LOVES a musical challenge) worked together to figure out how the accordion is structured (the buttons make chords), and now, they’re focusing on getting familiar with the instrument through learning basic chord progressions.

Joshua is a great example of what it looks like to spend years putting in the work, learning scales, chords, key signatures, and all the nuts and bolts of music lessons that we so often complain about….so that he can now explore new instruments, improvisation, composition, arranging, and more.

Through years of practice, he has developed the tools to build his musical “house,” and it’s so fun to see where his interests take him….and how we can support him along the way.
