The Caros Chronicles

The Caros Chronicles Author page for the "Adventurers of the Carotian Union" series and first two books, "The Chalice of Life" and "Tapestry of Enchantment"

Thalas: a world on the brink of civil war
The Carotian Union: a nascent confederation of planets at the edge of destruction. Eliander: a prince lost millennia ago to the flow of normal space-time

On a world where both magic and technology function, seven extraordinary souls set out to find a figure out of legend, the one hope their worlds have of evading complete destruction. Passionate mystics,

honest thieves, and a silver-tongued bard with a knack for instigating barroom brawls: what the Carotian goddess Minissa was thinking when she selected them, the One Above only knows. Danger awaits them at every corner on worlds they never knew existed. But such trivialities never deter a band of true heroes…

Moments of perfect beauty in a natural world, fanciful art installation---but it's still science! For those who liked Guardians of the Galaxy: "I am Groot"?

Graham takes a stroll through Pooktre garden in South East Queensland to discover living art. Property owners, Pete and Becky, have created spooky shapes and crazy curves with the growth of the trees.

So everyone has advance notice, if you'd like to hear the sound of my voice or see how stupid I can make myself sound on the radio, I'm on this week's Friday Favorites on the local classical station KBYU (classical89.org) at 10 a.m. It's just a little get-acquainted-with-the-listeners interview tied with a piece of music suggested by the interviewee. Interestingly, they picked Thomas Talllis's masterpiece Spem in Alium (sometimes just referred to as "the 40-part motet") I have a lot of musical references in My Fantasy Series, and when they make me rich and famous, I thought a fun contest might be to see who can identify the pieces alluded to. This one is pretty much what I heard in my head when the questors finally get to Eliander's tomb and realize the way to open it is to take the music they're "hearing" in the Ether and give it voice.

If you're not in KBYU's broadcast area, they have a live stream you can access from their website (and the 10 a.m. is MST), and I think they archive for your convenience. It's a little scary because you know that of the 20 or so minutes they interview you, they're going to cut and paste to fit the time slot (and does anyone actually like the sound of his own voice?)

OK, this is what I submitted, and so far I haven't been told no, so this may be the image that makes the cover!

A real try-before-you-buy offer. If you amble over to One Voice Press (you may have to spell it all the way out; it's not popping up as a link), they're running a little contest through the end of October. Some minimal reading and/or rudimentary knowledge of astronomy (and maybe Photoshop) can win you a copy of one or both books!

OK, please don't laugh. My publisher asked me if I could take a run at some cover art for my new release, Tapestry of Enchantment, so here's kind of the working draft of my first concept. And yes, it does have something to do with the titular Tapestry, as our intrepid group of questors learns they've gone back in time to an era where magic was commonplace and accepted (rather than reviled), and they all seem to be wearing one of these medallions---which have to be matched up with bits of a fantastic tapestry they find in a ruined temple before the tapestry can be reassembled (and before time MWAHAHAHA runs out. Check One Voice Press for a contest that lets you win one or both of the first two books!

Just sent a wave of "Likes" and am apologizing in advance because, due to the new formatting, I may have asked some people twice, and when I first wrote this note, I may have forgotten to "post." I am starting a new website called I Am An Idiot.com. If you came here and do not recognize me or my work, my maiden name is Penico, and you likely know me from one of these groups: the dance community (esp in the Salt Lake City area), writers, geyser gazers, the Baha'i Faith (and other human rights-oriented groups), and graduates of Wildwood High School. I will not pester you with posts unless requested!

Just to celebrate that Tapestry of Enchantment is moving forward, I'm going to do a book giveaway. Tell me how the "photo" of the Carotian Union as seen from space was "shot" (very clear image of it on the "story" tab of the webpage, and it's oriented more intelligently than the thumbnail). Winning entry needs to have names of some actual heavenly bodies.

The Chalice of Life is the first in a series of books describing the quest for a lost prince trapped outside normal space-time. Intelligently written with well-defined, likeable characters and elements of fantasy, adventure, mystery, and puzzles
