Long overdue, but one of Honey Creek House Concerts favorites Woody Russell is on the ballot for the Grammy awards this year. We’re rooting for him!

🤜Amazing! I have been placed on the Official Ballot for this year’s Grammy Awards by The Recording Academy in the following category:

Best Alternative Music Performance
Woody Russell - “Lifeboat”

Check out the song and lyric video for “Lifeboat” https://woodyrussell.com/son-solitaire

It’s an honor to be placed on the ballot and I need your help to get into the Final Top 5 Nominees.

If you are a voting member of the Grammys, I ask for your consideration.

Also, if you know someone else who is a voting member in this year’s Grammys, please forward this message and ask for their consideration on my behalf.

Even if you’re not a voting member, maybe you know someone who knows someone who is. You know what I'm asking: please consider sharing my news with your network. I would sincerely, genuinely appreciate it. After all, your continued support is a big part of the reason I'm already on this road! Feel free to reach out to everyone you know by email, on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and all other social media sites. Please share this message with as many people as possible! You might be surprised at just who is a voting member of the Grammys.

Thanks so much for all of your support and consideration. -WR

RIP Malcolm Holcomb- “When I was 14 years old I started “sneaking” in to a small hippie folk club in my hometown of Asheville, North Carolina called Caesar’s Parlor. It was a different time then- the drinking age was 18- and that somehow made it more justifiable for me to be allowed to hang out in this den of inequity where there was “live" music almost every night. The stage in Caesar’s Parlor was tiny- no room for an actual band- and most of the acts that played there were either solo, duo, or trio. I recall a lot of bluegrass and some occasional blues but mostly what I witnessed in Caesar’s were singer-songwriters. Being a young guitar player/ singer who was just discovering a lot of “outside the box” music for the first time, I found myself enthralled with the local “folk scene”. There were a lot of talented songwriters in the Asheville area (which had not yet blossomed into the thriving art/music Mecca that it has since become) but the 3 that stood out to me were Ray Sisk, Larry Rhodes, and Malcolm Holcomb. I found myself frequenting Caesar’s (as everyone referred to it), especially on nights when one of them was playing. They all immediately took me under their wing, often inviting me to join them on the tiny stage, and eventually they would each mentor me, helping me become a songwriter and introducing me to a lot of great “folk-influenced" music including their own. Malcolm and Ray had a group called Redwing which varied from being a duo to, at times, including bass and even drums (God forbid) and they played at many of the local clubs and even toured from time to time, mostly around the Southeast. I became an honorary member and joined them every chance I got. Malcolm was a really cool acoustic guitar player with a unique smoky voice who, although older, was closer to my age than Ray or Larry and consequently we spent a lot of time together, playing and listening to a lot of music. He and Ray complimented each other perfectly but would eventually go their separate ways, pursuing their own careers- as we all would. I have very fond memories of those days which in many ways helped shaped my future path. Regretfully, Malcolm and I hardly saw each other in recent years- the last time being at a festival in the Netherlands where we were both performing and although we were on different stages I managed to see part of his set and he sounded great. Malcolm leaves behind a legacy of wonderful music, having recorded quite a few solo records (some of his best being his most recent) and garnered a reputation as an eclectic modern folk artist. He touched a lot of people’s lives.”- WH

Honey Creekers,

After a lot of contemplation and soul searching Pam and I have decided that Honey Creek will back away from regularly scheduled shows. We have had an amazing group of performers when we started this venture in 2012, and we couldn't have done it without you.
As one of our esteemed performers once told us, "when it starts to feel like work, it's time to call it a day". Well, it has started to feel like work since COVID hit. We struggle with attendance at every show, and it doesn't do our performers justice to drive great distances to find 8 people in the room. Life has changed for many people and acknowledge that our artists need a more dependable venue for Saturday nights.

That being said, we aren't going to completely shutter the doors, but we won't be booking regularly scheduled shows for next year. If something presents itself and we can assure the artist an adequate headcount, we will of course consider it and each of you will be on the list for invitation.

We have met a great deal of wonderful people over the years and hope to stay in touch. If you are a regular attendee at our shows, expect an invitation for our holiday party this season as a reunion of sorts. We hope to see you here!

We thank you for supporting live music in North Texas, and look forward to seeing you soon.

Thank you,

Bill & Pam

We regret to inform you that our last show of 2023 will be cancelled as Pam has tested positive for COVID. Look for an announcement at a later date for updates on Honey Creek's future plans. Stay well, everyone.

Oh, man, how I genuinely needed this good news right now... GLOWING reviews coming in for "THiS iS SON SOLiTAiRE"! Seriously, I'm absolutely touched, moved, by what I'm reading. Have you heard the EP? What do you think? The link to this first article is posted in the comments because, as we all know, the FB algo doesn't want you to click away. That noted, I hope you'll take just a minute click on over and read this one and forthcoming reviews. Thank you Heather Savage at Top Buzz Magazine for the love!
