Meet Mike Hall, Section Violin.

Michael (Mike) Hall joined Orchestra Iowa and the faculty of the Orchestra Iowa School in the 1990’s! At the school he has maintained a private violin and viola studio, been active in the Suzuki and chamber music programs, and is still very active in the Fifth Grade Fiddles program in the elementary schools in Cedar Rapids.

He received a BM degree from the University of Iowa as a Fairall scholarship student and was the first recipient of the MM in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Main teachers have included Allen Ohmes, Linda Cerone, Eugene Gratovich, and Michele Higa George. He is an alumnus of several summer programs including the Encore School Strings for Strings, the Meadowmount School of Music, Alfred University Chamber Music, and the International Institute of Music in Bolzano, Italy.

He has played at one time with many of the orchestras of Iowa and has previously played in the Toledo Symphony and the National Repertory Orchestra. In addition to the OI School, he currently maintains a private studio at Schultz Strings. Having also studied viola in college and summer festivals he has been a frequent chamber music violist.

Brucemorchestra 2026 was a blast! We are so honored to have been invited to sing on the stage with Orchestra Iowa and their wonderful symphony.

The night featured a selection of Patriotic Pops songs and stories, and singing from Margaret Gawrysiak and Cedar Rapids Opera's own Tad Ennen. A bit of weather abbreviated the second half of the show unfortunately, but the indomitable Orchestra came back with an amazing 1812 Overture with real explosions like you can only get outdoors! All set against the beautiful backdrop of Brucemore for an experience that might be unbeatably peak Cedar Rapids.

We're looking forward to collaborating again with this season's January production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the Paramount Theatre. Tickets are available now through Orchestra Iowa's box office. It's the best way to support both arts and culture organizations in Cedar Rapids and have a great show to boot.
