15th Street Story Walk is coming to fruition!

We're making steady progress on this mural that extends nearly a mile from Mt. Vernon Road to 2nd Avenue.

All the designs are inspired by students at Johnson Steam Academy. I had them illustrate some memories they have about living in the neighborhood and pulled from those.

For example this block is called "Smore's Night".

If you see one of us stop by and say Hi!

Open Studios this week!

Wednesday 2:30-6:30~
Friday Noon-6:30~

First visit free, after $10 gets you unlimited coffee/tea and access to basic art supplies. Stay as long as you please.

If you’re on a fixed budget let me know and we can exchange studio time for a bit of help around the studio. ☺️

Extra kits are available for sale as well. I’m happy to help with any ongoing projects you have too.

We had great fun painting our pets last night at Paint Your Pet - No Experience Needed!

Should I offer another session this August? Its a cozy little studio so groups 4-8 are perfect.

Wednesday and Thursday I’ll be offering quick mini-portraits of your animal companions!

30 minute portraits are $35 for a 4x4 on a deep edge canvas. Super cute for desks and book shelves. OR for a quick Father’s Day gift.

My normal portraits start at 6x6 and take about 4 hours each, starting at $85, so this is a great budget option!

Studio will be open tomorrow from 11-3

And she’s done! After 3 solid days of work this cephalopod will be hanging around near the Iowa city library for the next year. All done by freehand.

I had a lot of fun with this one. Today a young artist we’ll call “Dia” remembered me from a class I had taught last year. She kept coming back to check on my progress all afternoon and offer help! If you look closely she added a Purple Heart towards the bottom middle. She also helped me mix some mediums into my paints and advised me to add more red.

It was really sweet to see all the 3-11 year olds come up to me and ask what I was doing. Reminded me why I love to share my love of art with the young ones. 😊

What an awesome contribution to the mural at 5th Story Studio! My private lesson student and I have been working together for a couple years now and she brought this dolphin to life in the mural in just 45 minutes! Soft opening is Wednesday May 28th, between 11-6:30
