***Outdated Post***

A Flood Watch has been issued for portions of southern and central Iowa from late this afternoon through Friday morning. Rainfall totals of 2–4 inches are anticipated, with locally higher amounts possible, leading to a risk of scattered flash flooding and urban ponding. A second round of heavy rain and storms is expected late Friday. Motorists are reminded to never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown!

Central Iowa will see a few scattered showers and storms kick off Sunday morning. While these storms are expected to remain below severe limits, they could drop some heavy downpours before tapering off toward the afternoon. Expect mostly cloudy skies for the bulk of the day with only brief peeks of sunshine. A slim chance for redevelopment returns this evening; if any storms manage to form, they could bring isolated hail, gusty winds and isolated heavy rainfall.

RAPID DROUGHT ONSET
Good evening friends. A few days ago I mentioned the very dry outlook heading into June and the potential for a reemergence of drought conditions. The Climate Prediction Center formally added a "watch" item for our area, calling for "Rapid Onset Drought Risk."

This, combined with extreme heat, could be quite a looming risk in the days ahead as the pattern really starts to shut down and remain dry.

No significant rain chances are in view for the next 10-14 days.

Line of strong/severe storms over Central IA will track east towards the area this evening/tonight. Some storms may be strong to severe, with primary threat being strong winds. We will see this move into our west around 9pm, reaching the Mississippi River by 1AM.
