It's only 2 hours until our final show and the last time to show your support for Mirrorbox Theatre and the art that we've brought to the community. Even if you have never joined us for The Rapids before, we hope that you'll come support the talented team behind this show and send us off with laughter. We've got a couple more improvisers joining the party tonight, Logan and Jay.

Here are some of Logan's thoughts on The Rapids:

What has been your favorite memory of The Rapids? It's so hard to pick just one, but it's probably when I got cast in the very first season. The Rapids gave me an opportunity to grow and practice my favorite thing to do and that moment really changed my relationship with performing and with the theatre community here in Cedar Rapids.

Why have you enjoyed being involved over multiple seasons? It's just been a blast getting to perform and direct some of my favorite improvisers in town. I consider practically everyone who has performed in The Rapids a friend, and so it's really been a great way to build community and get to hang out with people who are just as silly and goofy as me.

What are you most looking forward to about the series finale? I'm looking forward to giving this show its final sendoff and doing it with a bunch of people I love.

Why have you enjoyed being involved over multiple seasons? I've enjoyed watching different actors takes on these five personalities. Everyone has brought different energy and life to each.

What are you most looking forward to about the series finale? I'm looking forward to revisiting these five personalities!

Why should someone come see The Rapids series finale? These characters have been a blast to work with. They deserve a fantastic sendoff that I cannot wait to be a part of!

Let's find out more about Jan's time in The Rapids and why they think you should join us for tonight's show:

I have soooo many great memories of The Rapids! I love the time when we all linked arms and fanned ourselves with personal fans like a bride and groom drinking champagne at a wedding. Second place has to be the chicken shows!

Being involved in multiple seasons really let me develop my version of all the characters. I got to play each one of them at one time or another, and that was phenomenal. Playing the character that you feel the least affinity for is always the one that makes you grow as an improviser.

I have two favorite characters: Marty Sinclair and Chris Cameron. Marty is such a joy to play because you can really lampoon the 1%. Chris is fun for me because in my mind, Chris is always a guy. So, I play Chris that way in my brain, but the audience sees me as a woman. It’s just a really fun gender mashup for me. And who's to say what's "male" and "female"?

You should see the series finale because it’s going to be fantastic! The five characters you’ve been following all along are finally going to…🤷🏻‍♀️.

Mirrorbox Theatre hopes you will join us for the Series Finale of The Rapids and our final show in the community. While it's hard to say goodbye, we hope to go out leaving you laughing.

If you've joined us for The Rapids, you'll probably remember our next talented improviser taking the stage tomorrow, Tammy. Learn a bit more about Tammy's experience in The Rapids and why they think you should join us tomorrow.

1. I think my favorite memory is when my daughter's roommate told the story about being late to sing the national anthem at college graduation, and that show we ended up with was so fun. Who knew we would end up singing the WHOLE national anthem?

2. What kept me coming back for more seasons was the amazing improvers I got to work with. I made friendships, and I learned so much from all of them. I am more confident as an improver than I would have been without that opportunity and connection.

3. I'm looking forward to the chance to get to play again with those I have been in the cast with, as well as the improvisers I haven't met yet. I believe it will be so fun to explore new ideas and character traits.

4. My favorite character to improve has been Marty Sinclair. I enjoy exploring how greedy or devious or self-involved SHE can be.

5. If someone has ever said, "I'll catch the next one" the answer is no... This is your last chance to see a one-of-a-kind show where all the drama, intrigue and shenanigans of a soap opera is improvised right before your eyes!

It's the Final Countdown! The Series Finale of The Rapids is Wednesday, November 19th at Giving Tree Theater. The fun begins at 7:00 p.m.

Purchase your ticket online so that you only need to check-in, grab a comfy seat, get yourself some refreshments, and then enjoy the show.

We're excited to be welcoming Marek back to The Rapids this month and here's what they had to say about their experience and why you should join us for this once in a lifetime event (it's improv):

1. My favorite memory as an audience member was when I got to watch the cast sing The Star-Spangled Banner. The looks on their faces when they realized they were going to really sing, and sing the whole song, was priceless! As a performer, my favorite memory will be glancing out into the audience and seeing my son doubled over because he was laughing so hard at what I just did on stage.

2. Being in The Rapids has been a huge learning experience for me. I've been learning to be a better long form improviser, all in a safe space with some very funny people. Bringing joy to peoples' evening is a great pleasure, and an opportunity that is special.

3. For the series finale, I'm looking forward to a longer show with more opportunity to make people laugh. Whatever happens, I hope we go out with a bang!

4. My favorite character to improvise is Chris Cameron. In one episode I especially had fun playing him as being clueless about most things, but then as a supercomputer hacker genius!

5. People should come to the show because it's the last time to find out what sort of hijinks these characters are up to. Will anybody get together? Will greed rule? Will love rule? Whatever happens, it will be unique and hilarious!

As we prepare to bid farewell to The Rapids and our community on Wednesday, we wanted to introduce our next improviser, taking the stage, Jade by sharing more about what they felt about their experience in The Rapids and why you should attend the Series Finale.

I enjoyed being involved in multiple seasons because The Rapids was a fun and unique way to showcase improvised storytelling and share it with our community at large. It was structured enough in that newer improvers could audition and be cast while also giving more seasoned performers could play with to.

I think for the finale, I’m most hopeful for new directions for each character. Maybe Marty will finally take to heart their lessons between industry and sharing their wealth. Maybe Robin will find permanency in their prodigal person journey, maybe with someone, or finally, knowing where they can stay for a while. Maybe Darcy and Chris will finally find themselves as evenly matched lovers instead of seeking love or just being sought after. What could Val’s final words of wisdom be for their friends? Gotta find out, one last time.

I think everyone should see the series finale of the Rapids because there’s nothing else like the humor of an improvised show, especially when combined special-ness or specialty of a final show!

Dear Mirrorbox Theatre Supporters,

It is with deep regret and sadness that the Board of Directors for Mirrorbox Theatre announces that our organization will cease to operate by the end of the year. Unfortunately, we’ve recently uncovered financial issues that make it no longer possible to sustain our work in the way our community deserves.

We are grateful to have been part of this community, and we want to offer our sincerest thanks to everyone who has demonstrated their support for us over the years. We know that many artists have found a community with us, and we are grateful to have been part of so many lives.

While this decision has not been easy, we have had to accept that it is time for us to say goodbye and so we have decided to offer one last show. Our monthly improvised soap opera comedy, The Rapids, will take the stage at Giving Tree Theater on Wednesday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. We hope you will join us as The Rapids and Mirrorbox Theatre take a final bow together.

Unfortunately, this announcement does also mean that we will not be producing DIE HARD...is a Christmas movie in December 2025. We appreciate everyone who made us part of their holidays over the last few years, and we wish you all the best this season and encourage you to check out the offerings of our fellow community theatres. We are blessed to know that even though our time is over, the performing arts are going to continue to thrive in our area.

1. What has been your favorite memory of The Rapids? I will always love the season 4 show that ended with the whole Rapids crew singing the Star Spangled Banner - IN character!

2. Why have you enjoyed being involved over multiple seasons? I've loved seeing The Rapids pick up new pieces of lore as new and more crazy things happen - how many butlers does Marty even HAVE now??

3. What are you most looking forward to about the series finale? I am so pumped to see multiple "generations" of The Rapids unite! Bringing together these veterans from past seasons is so exciting!

4. Who has been your favorite character to improvise and why? I've loved being all of the characters, but if you forced me to honestly pick a favorite, it's Darcy Jordan. I sure don't mind being the center of attention and I especially love all the shenanigans you can get into when everyone is after you!

5. Why should someone come see The Rapids series finale? Because we've left you hanging EVERY other time!! You don't want to be the only person who doesn't know how it ends, right? This is truly your only chance to actually "find out next time on... The Rapids!"

Mirrorbox Theatre has a bittersweet announcement. After 9 seasons of our monthly improvised soap opera comedy, The Rapids, the denizens of The Rapids have decided that they would like to live their lives outside of the public eye so we're bidding them farewell with a series finale this month on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. We'll be doing a special holiday double episode with one 15-minute Intermission. We're also inviting back our "All Stars" who have all been improvisers for The Rapids to give this program its perfect but improvised send off. We hope you'll join us.
