Midwest Pavement Grand Nationals

As many of you have probably seen, Hawkeye Downs Speedway will be converting the 1/4-mile track to dirt this fall, with it becoming a permanent dirt facility beginning in 2027.

While this isn't the news we were hoping for, we understand the difficult decision that had to be made to help ensure the future of the facility.

A HUGE thank you to all of our incredible sponsors, racers, and supporters who have helped keep asphalt kart racing alive in the Midwest over the years. Your dedication and passion have meant everything to the MPGN.

At this time, we're not sure what the future holds for kart racing at Hawkeye Downs. As we learn more, we'll keep everyone updated on any plans or opportunities for dirt kart racing beyond the 2026 season.

Once again, thank you to everyone who has been part of the MPGN. We truly appreciate your continued support.

A huge THANK YOU 🙌 to everyone who came out and supported the 5th running of the Cassill Motors Midwest Pavement Grand Nationals! The afternoon of May 2 brought a little chill in the air, but once the engines fired, the racing turned up the heat 🔥 in a big way at Hawkeye Downs!

From green flag 🟢 to checkered 🏁, this year’s event delivered some of the most intense racing we’ve seen in MPGN history. Tight battles, photo-finish moments 📸, and edge-of-your-seat action kept fans locked in all day long. Every class brought the energy, and the competition level continues to rise year after year.

One of the highlights of 2026 was the debut of our brand-new Juice Box Class! With 6 young drivers taking to the track, it was nothing short of awesome to watch. The smiles 😄, the excitement 🎉, and the pure joy these kids brought reminded everyone what this sport is all about. The future of kart racing is looking bright 🌟, and it was incredible to see the next generation getting their laps in at Hawkeye Downs!

We couldn’t make this event happen without our racers 🏎️, fans 👏, sponsors 🤝, and staff🙏 who continue to make the MPGN bigger and better every year. If this year was any indication, the bar has officially been raised 📈—and we’re already looking forward to what 2027 will bring! 🚀

For those of you that have not been to Downs Speedway before please see the attached picture for the entrances to use.

Please use the main driveway behind the grandstand to get into the facility. The proceed behind the grandstands to the pit shack.

General admission gate and ticket sales will be behind the main grandstand.

After sign up you may proceed to your reserved pit stall or and open parking spot. Reserved pit stalls will have a cone in front of them, please do not move these cones unless this is your reserved spot.
We will have staff on hand to help with parking.

90 Min of Controlled Practice
1 Heat race with Passing Points for ALL warm up classes and non GN classes
GN Classes will Qualify (No Heat Races)
Features to Follow Heat Races and Qualifying
ALL Classes will be required to run MAXXIS Tires (Except for Kid Karts)

***Once you have checked parked please check in with Brian, he will be at the K9 Late Model Pit on the North end of the Pit area in turn 3. He will be collecting you $20 entry fee and explain how things will work this evening. ***

(Pit Passes and Transponder rental will be at the main ticket booth, see picture)

(Brian will collect in the pits and handle all payouts)

(Westhold Transponders are being used, you may bring your own if you have one. Be sure to have the transponder number available at sign in)

87 octane non ethanol

Make sure to empty the gas tank\fuel lines on your kart of any previous fuel used.
Also be sure to purge the gas pump line into your vehicle or generator prior to filling up your gas can.
If you tank or gas can has had ethanol in it, that may cause the fuel to not pass tech. Please be sure clean your tanks accordingly. Failing to do so could result in a failed fuel test.

This location is on the corner of 33rd ave SW and 6th St SW.
