Dalia Goldberg Art

Dalia Goldberg Art Self-taught pen artist based in the Austin area, Texas, USA. I make hard-edge geometric abstract drawings that capture my own experiences of the world.

In my practice I combine fine-line pen techniques with bold black geometric shapes. Originally from Israel, I moved to the US in 2017 with my husband. The move brought on new adventures and adjustment challenges that influenced my art work. As a former psychology student I couldn’t help but linger and analyze the cultural differences I now saw so clearly. The dynamics of these new experiences and

ideas have manifested in my art and blossomed into a distinctive voice and style, using lines, patterns and bold black geometric elements. I’m fascinated with the building blocks of our perception, and how we process those to understand our environment, mentally and emotionally. I explore how these impressions connect and interact with each other in shaping our view. In my work I introduce different geometrical elements to emphasize that a configuration of sensory, mental and emotional influences colors our perspective in a certain way. You could say that I am mostly interested in the WHY of the human experience - Why do we do the things that we do. Each drawing begins with the intent of expressing a specific concept and the layout is always premeditated based on sketches. I create a grid that outlines the image I envision. This process mirrors the conceptual notion that life is built of a series of events that molds the way we view different experiences. I draw inspiration from my day to day life experiences as well as psychological phenomenas and facts. Artistically my work is influenced and inspired by Kazimir Malevich, El Lissitzky and the Suprematism movement. In addition I have to note my admiration of Agnes Martin for her iconic work with the grid, and Maurits Cornelis Escher for his impossible constructs and his remarkable work in the field of optical art.

So proud to have my painting "The Dancer" featured in the Austin Chapter of Hadassah's Jewish Calendar for the upcoming year!! The calendar presents 12 artworks from local talented women artists and is now available for purchase 😊

"The Dancer", a painting by Dalia Goldberg, is a reference to an amazing woman named Martha Graham (1894-1991), an American modern dancer. Graham was a revolutionary, striving to make dance a form of art that is grounded in the human experience. She developed her own unique dancing techniques that are still taught today.

She had many impressive achievements in her lifetime: She was the first dancer to perform at the White House, travel abroad as a cultural ambassador, and receive the highest civilian award in the US: the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction. When she received a private invitation from Adolf Hi**er to represent the US in the 1936 Summer Olympics, she took a stand and refused saying she cannot attend when so many of her (Jewish) colleagues are being prosecuted.

The drawing is based on a photo taken by Barbara Morgan and titled "Letter to the world" (1940).

This painting along with eleven other beautiful pieces of art are featured in our new Jewish wall calendar. Order as gift for friends, family, or yourself (:

So Excited to share that my work "Zebra Party" is participating in the juried group exhibit "Modern Masterpieces"!

The exhibit will showcase fine art pieces that were inspired by the style of past well-known artists or an art movement. The exhibit opened last week at Downtowner Gallery, Round Rock, Texas and will run until June 25th, 2021.

This drawing was inspired by the Geometric Optical Art movement. It was specifically influenced by Victor Vasarely’s masterpiece "Zebra" (1937) which is considered one of the earliest examples of optical art.

"Zebra Party", India Ink on Illustration Board, March 2021, 8x10 Inches, available for purchase at 240$.

Hi all! I'm back after a long and unexpected break! Five weeks ago I had an accident and been spending a lot of time away from the studio unfortunately πŸ˜•

Many projects were left behind in mid process and I'm so glad to be back and finish what I started. Here is one of them - an addition to the "Patterns in Chaos" series. Titled "Lines or Circles". I'm curious to know what do you see first? The lines or the circles?

"Lines or Circles", May 2021, India Ink on Illustration Board, 8x10 Inches. Available for purchase, please DM for inquiries.

Inspired by the water drops on my shower doorπŸ’§ I know... it's a weird source of inspiration, but if you look closely at them they create a beautiful chaotic pattern. I've added here a picture of the drops, so you can be the judge.

"Twisted Water Drops", April 2021, India Ink on Illustration Board, 8x10 Inches. DM to purchase πŸŒ‘βšͺ

Always been fascinated by dot art. Maybe because dots are basically circles? πŸ™ƒβšͺπŸŒ‘ In any case, creating an image entirely out of dots seems like magic to me. I really wanted to try it out with the pattern I'm currently working on.

So this is something a little different than my usual geometric hard-edge art, but I like it and enjoyed experimenting with this technique. Swipe to see the full image and additional angles.

In the spirit of experimenting, I've also used the Mirror Lab app on this image to create different digital renderings and will be posting those on my stories, if you want to check it out.

"Organic shift", March 2021, Acrylic Markers on Illustration Board, 8x10 Inches. DM to purchase βž–
