Today we highlight Laila Garrett, Instructor of West African Dance! 🪘
West African Dance class is held every Wednesday at 6:00pm
Laila Garrett (Newark, NJ) is a senior at Montclair State University pursuing a BFA in Dance Performance with a minor in Philosophy. She began her training at Umoja Dance Studio under the direction of Karen Love and continued at Newark Arts High School.
Laila has a strong foundation in street styles, including Jersey Club, House, and Hip Hop, and competed in dance battles for three consecutive years.
She has trained at leading intensives such as Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, Earl Mosley’s Diversity of Dance, GALLIM, and Sidra Bell Dance New York. At Montclair State, she has performed works by Stefanie Batten-Bland, Camille A. Brown, Jessica DiMauro Marks, Maxine Steinman, and Maleek Washington.
