🍎 One last afternoon in the library.

For the past few months, Open Reading Hours has invited visitors into the Hilltop House library to browse the Riester collection, pull books from the shelves, and spend time in a room that is rarely open to the public. This Friday, we’re bringing the series to a close for the season.

Among the many books discovered along the way, Henry Moore’s sheep sketchbook was a visitor favorite.

🍎 Open Reading Hours at Hilltop House Library
Friday, September 4
2–4 PM
Hosted by 2026 Hilltop House Fellow Patricia Christakos

One last reason to linger: refreshments by our friends at the Pewter Spoon Cafe.

Free and open to all. 🦋

“Collective Mending” by Julia Lines Wilson uses weaving as a tool for ecological restoration.

With the support of the community, Wilson harvested grasses and other plant material from Stone Quarry’s grounds and wove them into pathways through a disturbed area of open woodland. The woven paths suppress unwanted seeds while creating an incubator for a special seed mix, helping the area transition back to meadow.

But the work doesn’t end when the path is woven. As the meadow grows, visitors become participants in its care. Walking, weeding, photography, and citizen science will become part of an ongoing, collaborative approach to managing the meadow.

Walk the paths, tend the land, and become part of the project.

A new piece arrived at the Park this summer, and we decided to give it a proper welcome. 🐜 🐜 🐜

Ant Alice II is a reproduction of Arlene Abend’s original work, Ant Alice. Chloe Loewenguth, Kiki Sciullo, and Howie Sneider fabricated Ant Alice II at Stone Quarry Art Park. Arlene’s daughter, Tema Abend, joined via FaceTime to support and capture the entire process!

When complete, we marched the sculpture down to the farmers market.

Back at ART LOBBY, in the Pewter Spoon Cafe building, Kiki Sciullo was thinking about ants, too, with an afternoon of ant drawings and an exhibition of illustrations devoted to the small but extraordinary creatures.

Now Ant Alice II has made its way back to the Park, where it’s settling into the hillside.

A new ant. A new home. A good way to begin.
