Colleen Herman is an artist living and working in the Catskill Mountains whose painting practice explores embodiment, nature, intuition, and self-inquiry. Working directly by hand on textile and wood surfaces, she creates layered compositions that feel both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Throughout her work, flower forms emerge and dissolve, echoing cycles of growth, transformation, decay, and renewal. Her paintings embrace improvisation and process, resulting in works that feel immediate, physical, and alive.
As part of Foreland’s Open Studios on June 27, visitors are invited into Colleen’s studio to experience these works in the space where they are created and learn more about her evolving practice.

This Upstate Art Weekend marks the opening of Gaa Gallery’s newest location at Foreland.
Founded in Cologne and New York City, Gaa is a female-owned contemporary gallery dedicated to presenting work by both international and local artists through exhibitions, art fairs, and community engagement. Their inaugural Catskill exhibition, A Room That Once Was, brings together works by Johanna Seidel, Malaika Temba, Anina Major, Jia Sung, Melissa Joseph, Curtis Santiago, LaRissa Rogers, and Julia Garcia.
Through sculpture, painting, textiles, and installation, the exhibition considers how domestic objects, inherited forms, and intimate spaces become carriers of memory. Together, these artists reimagine home not as a fixed place, but as something shaped by migration, labor, kinship, and personal history.
Visit A Room That Once Was throughout Upstate Art Weekend and join us for the public reception on June 27 from 4–7 PM.

Step inside the shared studio of Ariana of 9 design and stained glass artist Dan Schwartz during Foreland Open Studios on June 27.
Working across furniture, objects, stained glass, and sculptural design, both artists explore the relationship between function, storytelling, and the spaces we inhabit. Ariana’s work draws from speculative domesticity and the idea that objects carry their own presence, while Dan’s stained glass pieces balance abstraction, craft, and reverence, inspired by everything from geologic maps to the beauty of urban decay.
On view will be a collection of folk-inspired functional objects for the home, alongside stained glass works that blur the boundary between art and utility.
Visitors can also experience a special live performance by Kendra McKinley from 12 - 2 PM, creating harmonic and melodic architecture using only her voice and a looping pedal.

Opening during Foreland Open Studios on June 27th, The Living Room by 30-06 is an immersive installation in Foreland’s Tower Stair that transforms the bioelectrical activity of living plants into sound and moving image. Through sculpture, botanical material, digital systems, and the architecture of the stair itself, the work reveals the subtle relationships between living systems, built space, and human presence. Free and open to the public!

30-06 is the interdisciplinary art practice of sisters Lauren and Isabella Pedrosa, whose work explores the intersection of image, architecture, atmosphere, and spatial storytelling through both digital and physical experience design.

The Living Room will be open for additional viewing on June 28th, July 3rd, 4th, & 5th from 11am – 5pm.

Tower Stair at Foreland is a fully cantilevered, wrap-around structure spanning 6 stories. It’s the crown jewel of our architectural design, the fever-dream collaboration between the building owner and David Bers Architecture Tower Stair is equipped with 12 individual speakers, accommodating anywhere between one audio track and layered, speaker-specific programmed sound. We host both designed installations and live performances within the stair.

The audio installation at Foreland is designed and produced by Wesley Harper

Kathryn Lynch lives and works in Catskill, NY, where her studio is currently filled with new paintings fresh from a busy exhibition season.
Originally from Philadelphia and later based in New York City, Lynch has spent the past four years working in the Hudson Valley, developing a painting practice that balances intuition, humor, and psychological depth. Her works move between abstraction and figuration, building worlds that feel both familiar and slightly off-kilter.
Recent exhibitions include Heads at Platform Project Space in New York City (June 4) and Rare Earth at Night Gallery in Los Angeles (June 6).
Visit Kathryn’s studio during Foreland Open Studios to see what she’s working on now, including recent paintings and works in progress.
