What has your art collection taught you?

Not about art history or markets but about your own taste, your spaces, the way you spend your attention.

"Unwavering Joy #3" is part of an ongoing conversation on my side of the screen.

I would genuinely like to hear what you have learned.

People sometimes feel they need to be able to articulate why they want a particular work before they are allowed to buy it. That is not how it works.

The attraction does not need a defense. You do not have to be able to explain Shining Strong #3 to someone who asks; you just have to know it belongs in your space.

The explanation, if you want one, tends to arrive later on its own.

Every work that reaches a collector is the result of many decisions, including the decision not to show what came before it.

The finished work is not the whole story. It is the end of a longer, quieter process that most collectors never see.

When you live with Harbour of Bliss #7, you are living with the result of the artistic process and all that comes with it.

Street Connoisseur Keep It Real Pink Age

Mr. Brainwash (pseudonym for Thierry Guetta, b. 1966, France) “Street Connoisseur - Keep it Real - Pink” (2022) 1/1; 20 x 16 inches, unframed. A unique mixed media work on paper, hand signed along right edge and, on the verso, is the artist’s logo drawing, additional signature, date (2022), thumb print, and designation '1/1'. Includes Certificate of Authenticity from 'Life is Beautiful & Co." with reference number that matches the one on the verso of the artwork. Depicted is a gentleman in a suit standing with his hands behind his back, holding an "Art for Dummies" book as well as his hat and umbrella. He is looking at a piece of artwork that consists of a collage of black and white stencil and graffiti. The phrase, "Keep it Real" is painted on it, in pink. Included in the work are bits and pieces of recognizable images and phrases in homage to other great street and pop artists, including Banksy, Warhol, Basquiat, Lichtenstein, and Haring. All this is set against a collage-like background of colorful newspaper comics.

Interior designers often talk about sightlines. They're the natural path your eye travels when you enter or move through a room.

Most people never think about this consciously, but they feel it. Art placed directly in a sightline changes a room immediately.

Placement is as intentional as the work itself.

I think "Long Way to Calmness #2" could fit into a few different places. Where will you display it?

Simon Rohlen KEF! (given name: Simon Rohlen; b. 1989, Germany) “Long Way to Calmness #2” (2021) is an original acrylic painting on canvas. It is framed, signed by the artist on the verso, and measures 39 x 28 inches.

KEF! (Given name: Simon Rohlen) began as a street artist. He paints swirling lines in a style described as abstract graffiti. KEF! Is spiritual and is inspired by nature. He intends his work to be smooth, harmonious, and to spread positive energy.

A lot of people hold off on collecting art because they rent and feel uncertain about committing to walls they do not own. But art does not belong to a wall. It belongs to you.

Renting is not a reason to live with bare walls. It is a reason to collect work that matters enough to keep moving (and growing) with you.

"Ketchup Girl" and my other work are connected to the people who love them, not just the places they're displayed.
