I spent hours scrolling Pinterest looking for “easy” activities to keep my kids entertained without screens.
You know the ones — “5-minute crafts!” and “No prep needed!” plastered across every pin.
But here’s what nobody talks about: those “simple” activities aren’t actually simple for us moms.
Sure, making slime takes 5 minutes. But first I have to buy the ingredients, clear counter space, set everything up, supervise the mess, and then spend 20 minutes cleaning glue off every surface in my kitchen.🧼
The “no prep” nature scavenger hunt? I still have to come up with the list, print it out, and think of creative clues that match our backyard.
Even the easiest Pinterest activity requires me to be “on” as the creative director, supply manager, and entertainment coordinator. 🎨
As a former teacher and mom of 2, I know how to create engaging activities. But by 3pm when my kids are bored and I’m exhausted? My brain has zero creative juice left.
That’s when I realized what we really need isn’t “simple” activities. We need activities that truly run themselves — where kids can dive in independently, make their own choices, and create something meaningful without me having to orchestrate every step.
Activities that work on repeat, that grow with them, that capture this fleeting chapter of childhood while giving me permission to breathe.
You’re not lazy for wanting your kids entertained without becoming their full-time activities coordinator. You’re just missing a system that actually works for real mom life.
