Still Here has been part of our family for a while.
At 30 × 40, it was the largest piece I’d ever taken on. I worked on it in twenty-minute stretches, often with a baby on my hip, fitting charcoal time into whatever little pockets of the day I could find.
And somehow, this piece became a turning point for me.
It was the central piece of my first solo exhibition at , then it was accepted into the American Women Artists 2026 show and introduced my work to more people than anything I’d made before. Because the exhibition was online, it didn’t spend the summer bouncing from gallery to gallery. For a lot of that time, it hung in our home. My family watched me make it, and then we got to live with it finished.
Eventually it started having a life outside our walls too. It hung in shows, traveled with me, and somewhere along the way, it found its person.
Before sending it off to its new home, I wanted one last evening with it in the mountains. One last photoshoot for a piece that ended up meaning a whole lot more to me than I expected when I started it.
I’m so excited for where it’s headed. And really grateful for everything this bison brought with it. 🦬
Big shout out to Main Frame for a beautiful job framing this piece!
