The Senator; Rediscovering the Forgotten Play and Preston Plumb “The Senator” premiered in 1890. Hannibal Rivers was modeled on Senator Preston Plumb. The portrayal was an homage to his strength of character.

The play became lost to time until historian Johanna Wickman happened upon a copy of the script.
