All sorts of goodies in this week! I’m not sure if I’m showing all the new ones or not, but we have new leather bracelets, Crazy Aaron’s thinking putty, miniverse, disney princess dolls, coding chameleon, blooms by play-Doh, paint brushes, and new art supplies and diamond art out (not sure if I had mentioned that one previously)!

Restoration projects are a personal favorite of mine. Someone recently brought this portrait of his father into the studio and asked for it to be cleaned and fixed. It is from Chicago Portrait Company and is sentimental. CPC would take photographs of people and then paint over it and frame that work. It is from 1945, right around the time this young fella was deployed to Japan.

In an effort to restore it, someone tried to clean it with a wet rag and it took a layer of gouache off his face. That is why he ended up making his way to me. I was hired to clean, seal, and then restore the parts of the painting that were missing.

The frame brightened up a lot with a little cleaning. The image couldn't withstand any water cleaning due to the material so I prepped the surface in a dry way and then sealed the original painting with acid-free sealant. It is very important to preserve the original during restoration.

The client wanted to stay within a certain time limit of work to keep the price under a certain amount and I was able to basically stick to that timeframe for these fixes (went over by roughly $11). I was not there when the gentleman picked it up, but it sounds like he was thrilled with these fixes. I'm glad to hear, doing sentimental work can be difficult! There were challenges with aging, spotting, filling in areas with guesswork as to color, light and shadow, but I think it turned out great with the time I had!

Our “mom” section is filling up quick! What else do you think we need?

The new cards, calendars, and notebooks are all by Creations By Leah K DeVries! Check out her page for more like this or let me know if she has anything you’d like to see us keep in stock!

People have asked over the years if being artistic ran in the fam. The answer is yes. First, my great grandma was an amazing artist. And also my aunt Leah is and she semi-recently found her NICHE! 😍 So proud of her stepping out on her own like this & proud to carry her cards.
